Okay. First, I'll deconstruct Ron and Kim as the Writers have presented them in Canon.
They are all wrong for each other. Ron is far too immature for her. Some might point to a passing similarity between his personality and her father, James Possible, but that is not right.
See, James was at best a Nerd/Geek, but to become the successful career rocket scientist he became at the youthful age he is, he was in no way ever a slacker. Ron is. Granted Ron had begun to step up in Season 4, but frankly I have issues with the poor job the Writers did with that, leaving Ron as Jokes Buttsman faaaarrr too long and often instead of really providing him (and kids at home) life lessons on how to Nose Grindstone and mature.
So even so, Ron is not yet mature enough even by the finale to be a good match for Kim. Just look at how he spent more than half the episode babbling about his problems, issues, and concerns. Flying alongside the alien rambling about his fears instead of fighting… really now.
Let's also look at how poor a boyfriend he was. In Ill-Suited he stole from her, lied, and cheated his way onto the football team, just to impress her. Okay, yeah, teenagers will do that kind of foolishness, but I'm not done. In Mad Dogs and Aliens, while his girlfriend is fighting Shego at the spa, what was dedicated sidekick/boyfriend Ron doing? He stripped down naked in the sauna to kvetch with a bunch of Old Dudes about the Pep Puppies! More: in Chasing Rufus, Ron broke his seat in an airliner, not once, but twice! So what? When they uprated his seat to first class, did he give it to his girlfriend?? Either time???
Now, follow this one… in Homecoming Upset, Ron realizes he is the… "…Rebound Guy? I've never been the Rebound Guy!" Hello? First, in So the Drama, he was indeed the Rebound Guy after Synthodrone "Erik" 901. Okay, yeah what? So what does Ron do? He takes advantage of Kim's emotional despondency to declare his love for her. Now, and this is the crux if the situation, This relationship is doomed for that one reason alone… Kim was at her weakest moment, emotionally and psychologically broken and desperate; she was clutching at straws when she responded to his overture.
Mind you, Kim's personality is such she goes about much of her life with blinders on; a tunnel-vision. So, without something or someone making her pause and really reflect on things, she will marry Ron with mulish hardheadedness.
And they will be miserable. Ron will fall into the trap of "I've got her, I don't have to put any more effort into changing(continuing to mature)". Kim will continue to shrug aside his various quirks which canonically irk her so… until. Until, as all women do, it builds to the point she will erupt all over his @$$, with every little irksome thing he has ever done wrong, even things she never voiced or indicated annoyed her. He won't even remember 90% of them, much less see where he was "in the wrong", even if only from her POV, which at that moment will be the only POV which will matter.
That cluelessness will further annoy and anger her until she walks out. Forever. Because that is her personality. Snap Decisions she will operate upon to the exclusion of all else.
No, you want these two to get together and go the distance? Then Canon Ron must leave her life for 5-10 years and mature and grow the f*up!
Go to Yamanouchi to further his mastery of the MMP (which the finale really doesn't say he did. He just flared brightly, and we know what happens to such things), but there he runs the risk of Yori getting her hooks into him… which in the Grand Scheme is not necessarily a bad thing for him and his future with Kim. He needs to expand his horizons. Or go to culinary school.
I even presented a challenge on the Haven for him to end up a contract killer returning for a reunion, ala Grosse Pointe Blank.
Then, provided she hasn't moved on romantically, they will be able to truly click.
Otherwise, leave them as Best Friends Forever. And not even with benefits.
All that is my professional observations of Kim and Ron, just from StD onward… And I blame the Writers! Because they devolved a semi-competent Sidekick Ron into the Butt Monkey of all their jokes, instead of bringing in additional characters for the purposes. Did it really need to be Ron to turn into a junk food giant in Grande Size Me? Why not a new character needing Kim's help? Things like that are why the Writers made Ron the poorest choice to become Kim's love interest.
Ever Faithful, yes, but not boyfriend material.
When I have more time I'll deconstruct Kim's sexuality from canon clues and discuss the subtext of Kigo.

I mean the creators intended from the very beginning that Kim and Ron would get together. Also who says that people have to have similar personalities to work together? Yeah Ron has some flaws but so does Kim, she's immature enough to let herself be embarrassed by trivial means or the fact she's pretty shallow. I'd like to think Ron matured throughout the series, leading up to him single-handedly taking out two aliens that Shego and Kim couldn't defeat when teamed up.
And I guess we're all choosing to ignore when she said she loved him. Because saying 'I love you' to someone means nothing and is sooooo easy to come to the conclusion of.

Okay, what does the *intentions* of the creators have to do with the discussion I made about "as the writers presented them in canon"? As for their "intentions"… welllll… they *also* intended for Rewriting History to *not* be a dream. But that's not what canon gives us, now is it?

As a relation therapist, I agree that people do not need to have similar personalities. Did I, in fact, say anything about that? No. Not at all.
And although I did not discuss Kim saying she loved him, I'm not at all "choosing to ignore when she said [it]". But since you brought it up… Ron never *once* said that he loved her. So just go ahead and add that to the list I made about him being a bad boyfriend.
As for his "single-handedly taking out two aliens that Shego and Kim couldn't defeat when teamed up"… let's review that, shall we? Exactly *why* was Kim unconscious and held up like a shot-down duck while the aliens discussed what to do with her?
Lessee… Ron stepped up with false bravado ("check your calendar, it's graduation day…"), got immediately bitch-slapped by Warhok, sent flying into Kim, and knocking her cold so said aliens could have said discussion about what to do with said her.
I'm going to ask how that is "maturing", which he did not do during the series much less S4, considering that in Team Impossible we have the following exchange…
Kim: Ron, are you ready?
Ron: uhh, yea, uhh, umm, define 'ready'.
Kim: You're prepared to not get in the way. (underscore mine)
Ron: Oh, yeah, ready!
…yet here he did the complete opposite?

*shrugs* I dunno man, I was just all heated from an argument so I tried to pick another one. But I guess that's not a good solution. I mean, we seem to be both intelligent individuals, capable of having a good heated argument but I don't even know why I'm arguing this. Ron, as I see him now as I'm older is quite annoying to me, but I hold a degree of fondness for him because when I was little I thought him and Kim being together was cute so I went along with the ship. Now I just ship them because I honestly don't see them pairing off with anyone else. (I don't want to pair Kim off with Shego because that interferes with my Drakken and Shego ship) But yeah, I'm not all eager for an argument right now, but maybe later.

And don't get me started on *my views* of D/S… just suffice to say that whenever Shego's vine-wrapped expression is on *my face*, I'm placating a guy while backing away and looking for a chance to call the police.

Actually, thus might found stupid but I think that the writers are tryung to do the yin-yang/opposites are the best kind of couple thing, seeing how much difference there is between them.. But the problem is, when they have too many differences and no similarities and they won't ever be able to mix..
James and Anne were perfect for each other..
