Description Shot in Las Vegas two weeks ago. I call this one: "homeless middle class" because despite the fact that he is homeless(or at least appears this way), he has a cellphone, he drinks Starbucks, he eats fast food and shops in CVS....

I've seen people in Chicago have similar signs too.  I keep asking myself, just because you're honest doesn't mean I'm going to help your cause xD.

If... and that's a big if, he really is homeless it hasn't been for very long as he still has descent muscle tone and despite the dirt his skin for the most part seems in unreasonably good shape. He must be making good money to sustain a diet that keeps him that healthy and free of welts and bruising most homeless folks get from bad diets and too much alcohol in their blood stream.

Hell he looks in better shape than I do

maybe I'm in the wrong business...

its vegas... u never know. people in big cities, make good money working the streets. just talk to the homeless in Manhattan. But that's a good observation about the physical appearance..

I'm all over Phoenix and the first thing that you see is that odd malnourished look to the skin and lack of muscle tone. Well actually the first thing is the smell really. That's not to say that some homeless don't use public bathrooms to try and stay clean though

Even around Wisconsin there are people who pose as the homeless to make a quick buck. In La Crosse there are a couple people who pull that routine.

I was homeless there for the past year, until my PO rented me a motel room, and it was always the ones asking for beer that get money.

I've tried to ask for money for food, no-one believed me, people told me to fuck off and one called me a damn drunk.

 I don't even drink.

If I ever do that myself, I would just use humor. Funny and creative sign I think would go the distance... something about Zombies

Then they'll just think you're schizophrenic.
People avoid the homeless, the insane ones, even more so.

Eh, putting up a sign never worked for me, in the slightest.

I wonder if the fact that I used sketchpad paper instead of cardboard might've been a mistake.

When that fails, find a restaurant dumpster at closing hour. I mean, if you ever end up that screwed, it's the last resort that usually pays off.

Styrofoam takeout boxes are like loot treasure chests when you're starving.

well Vegas actually happened to be top of the list when it comes to wasting food. So if this man is truly homeless, i don't think he is hungry... but then again, I really don't think he is homeless.

Why were you on the streets in the first place? I thought there are rehabilitation programs that provide housing and some kind of employment for people who are getting out of jail(or wherever you were)... could you not stay with the relative or a close friend at least?

Nope, friends and family where not an option for a variety of reasons, mostly landlords being picky and owed money.

There are no programs like that for getting out of jail, if there are, there aren't any around here. Prisons do that, not jails.

Any city with a lot of restaurants wastes a ton of food. Its a proper disposal and re-use versus time and cost issue. The Hunger Task Force cuts down on that waste through charitable donation, they do a lot of good, but half of what they get goes to rot before it can reach the hungry people.

You should see the food that the Salvation Army has to throw out, piles and piles.

Some of it goes to farmers for compost and pig feed.

I know Vegas. I'll eat my hat if he's actually homeless. Homeless with cellphones is pretty common. It's easy to buy minutes and get a charge. Homeless with Starbucks not so much.

you could be right.... I mean, this is technically speaking a job as well. a job where you are not required to pay taxes and show overall income.

well. its one of the reasons I am experimenting with street photography style at the moment. it has a lot more to offer below the surface.

My dirt bag uncle would do this. He retired from the military with full pension and would still beg for money. It really irritates me.

zoomzoom In reply to Emperorkarsa [2016-08-19 21:03:50 +0000 UTC]

well... technically speaking, its not illegal to do that and I am sure some people actually make some good money do so. What I have a problem with is when they involve a child... have you see people begging with kids lately?

Emperorkarsa In reply to zoomzoom [2016-08-19 22:03:34 +0000 UTC]

I have not seen that in my town but that would really disgust me. Involving kids in begging would probably violate some legal precedent. Child endangerment or truancy or some such.

its vegas, so he is not honest, he is creative with the sign.... honest would be something like: "hey. i am not homeless, just lazy and this kind of work does make money, so I do that"
