Description
A male Epidexipteryx hui, easily identified by his red crown and tail feathers, poses for expedition members before bounding into the treetops and out of view. Normally crepuscular, this male has come out during the daylight to find food for his mate, who is incubating eggs within a nearby tree trunk cavity. Their procumbent front teeth and elongated third finger are used to probe tree bark for insects, but they will also opportunistically feed on eggs and small vertebrates. The yelping contact calls given by pairs are one of the signature sounds of the Daohugou forests during the evening.

Life size model I made using foam, wires, Sculpey clay, guineafowl, pheasant, and craft feathers, and lots of glue and felt. It measures 11 inches long, not including the tail feathers. It's fully poseable (more or less), capable of moving all of it's limbs and digits, neck, jaws, and tail.

Glad you like it! It's not for sale, but I do have plans to make molds of future pieces like this and offer them for sale one day. I'd focus on smaller feathered dinos and early birds, maybe also some obscure little reptiles (life size Drepanosaurus perhaps?) and fish.

Thanks! Yeah, I think my camera's flash really illuminated the bare bits. I've been planning to repaint them gray, just haven't gotten around to it.

Most likely. Though to absolutely honest, the single specimen of Epidexipteryx did not preserve most of the hand; therefore, the elongated third finger is based on its closest relative, Scansoriopteryx (aka: Epidendrosaurus).
