"For fifteen days, the imperial city would be decked with strings of lanterns on every roof. Lions would dance in the streets, delighting those of all ages. But best of all were the display of fireworks that would light up the night sky with dazzling colors. It was here in a village hidden in the mountains that Mulan took her friends to celebrate so that they could behold everything at once."

For those of you who remember my "Year of the Rooster " pic from last year, may I present this year's follow up piece commemorating the Year of the Dog! Heihei is on his way out, now it's time to give some love to Pluto, Goofy and of course, Little Brother!

As some of you probably already know, both pictures are inspired from Overwatch in which our favorite heroes are given Asian inspired outfits to ring in the lunar new year. As you can see, I'm ripping off that idea and applying it to some of my favorite Disney characters. Some of these are taken directly from the Disney Parks while others (I.E. the weird looking ones) are of my own design. If I'm perfectly honest, I think I did a much better job with the costumes this year. (You could barely see what the characters were wearing in the last one since it was so crowded and so dark.) But here, you can get an almost perfect view of everyone's costumes!

(Thank goodness too since...you know...that's the whole point of this.)

But what a difference a year makes! While I wouldn't consider this my best work to date, this DID provide me with LOTS of shading practice and yet another experiment with lighting and tones. And hey! Wouldja lookit that! I didn't insert myself this time! What a welcome change.

Since I've been obsessed with designing costumes lately, I must say I rather like the outfit I made for Snow White. Of course..as far as ACTUAL Chinese formal wear goes, you wouldn't normally see two patterns on the same outift, but then again, you wouldn't normally see two COLORS on the same outfit either. Plus, what you see was inspired by my grandmother's finest dresses...all the while keeping to Snow's classic color scheme of course. Goofy on the other hand was a horse of a different color! The amount of time taken to try and get all of the details on the pattern for his robes took FOREVER! But in the end, I think it paid off. (Frankly, I don't really care whether the Parks consider him a dog or not. He deserves to be honored along with Pluto and all the other great Disney dogs, doggone it!)

Before you ask, yes, Donald IS wearing a Mongolian inspired outfit that's also taken from Mei and General Li, but if I'm honest? I don't really like the clothes they give him in the Disney Parks. (When they actually bother to give him a costume that is.) So I decided to make my own. We also see Alice's Chinese dress make a triumphant return. (I do so love drawing her in that dress.) I also revamped Peter's look this time around to make it look a bit more oriental, but still staying true to his style. (Though if you ask me, the high collar makes his head look big.) I was also going to give Stitch a costume too (since his new series Stitch and Ai takes place in China) but the color red is already slightly off balance here, so I just left him as is. (Looking at it now, I could've at least given him a collar. Oh well. Maybe next time. -_-)

Lastly, I know that the Lunar New Year celebration applies to other Asian countries too. (Growing up, I always called it Chinese New Year, but I know that seems rather incorrectly exclusive.) I will try my best to accomodate said other countries in next year's picture. Since I couldn't include Daisy this time round, I'll be sure to include her in a kimono and Baymax in some sort of samurai outfit or something along those lines. After all, there are so many rich aspects of Asian culture to choose from, the hard part is making sure I do it well. The question is...which pig do I feature?

GAH! I'm getting ahead of myself. It took me over a week to get this done and I'm already planning for next year? Aiyah, I need to get back to work! (I need to finish something BIG before Wednesday!)

In the meantime, with a few days left of New Years celebrations, I hope you like this!
