Buzz Lightyear of Star Command & Toy Story series sketches from the past 3 months, film and show appearances mixed together with some hybrid styles. Zurg's prominently featured here, because I originally planned to draw something about him to the contest (later replaced him with Warp zorm.deviantart.com/art/BLoSC-… ) and sought for a proper appearance. Sorry, but to me, he's always Buzz's ol' daddy. TS2 canon emerged first, and I'm stuck in my ways.

....Buzz's dismayed face there in the corner made me chuckle perhaps more than was necessary. Hang on a minute, I saw the link down there in the comments, is this from "And the Serpent Shall Poison the Heavens"? Oh my goodness! That was one of the first Toy Story fics I ever read!

I love it. I follow TS2 canon too, so I love the image you gave him. And it takes away a bit from the Starwars rip off.

Zurg underneath the helmet looks alot like a rough and rowdy version of Dad Xanatos, where did you get the idea of his look?
Its probably his beard thats making me think that...
I bet Zurg always had that problem with gum...

Zurg's face is based on a design I created some 11 years back. It has evolved a bit since, but the image of him as a middle-aged, barmy human with black hair and beard just got stuck in my mind. The current beard's more Macbeth-y than the previous versions.

It does scream Macbeth with the age etched on his face...
It was always a mystery to me on whom Zurg really ways, displaying robotic characteristics, and sometimes, displaying human characteristics.
I remember a silly comic of Zurg actually fighting alonside Buzz...As Space ranger, but with his bucket helmet on ,in space ranger garb.
The whole turned out to be a nightmare for Zurg as one of his grub henchmen murmered: He shouldn't be eating Chilly dogs before sleeping...

Maybe a partial cyborg or someone wearing an exosuit (he's very clearly a Darth Vader parody, so I tend to believe the latter)? Anyway, like you said, he eats and sleeps...so there must be some biological functions going on underneath those robes.
I think I actually remember that comic, someone showed it to me like 9 or 10 years back. XD
I'm actively writing BLoSC fanfiction, and in my universe Zurg's this 80-year-old (youthful, though, as they have longer lives) human with a couple of robotic body parts and some sense-enhancing microchips embedded into his brain. Some other fanficcers, I think, have him appear as a full-fledged alien complete with horns. I haven't personally had time to read much anything, but I've seen some fan art here at DA.

With the Darth Vader Parody, that is definatly the most likely case, displaying those characteristics...
The Comic did come out about 10 years ago, I can say you are talking about the right one...
Your art style really puts some big curious questions about the relationship Buzz and Zurg, father and son...

Heh, I'll try to come up with a suitable back story to the whole Buzz and Zurg relation. Just waiting for my brains to start jostling out some ideas. XD

I've been told it's a bit slow in progress, but I blame my liking for those vast, meandering fantasy epics one can employ as efficient door stoppers even on windy days. So far I've got only 5 chapters up, though.

Yes. XDD There are two versions, a more cartoony and a comic-style one. It's based on something I created over 10 years back, when TS2 came out. See how stuck I'm in my ways. XDD
I always thought he was this middle-aged guy gone severely cuckoo in the head under that upside-down bucket of a helmet.

Really great job on Jessie! You pictured her wonderfully, even though you mentioned it would be hard for you. 
I think Zurg being Buzz's dad is a very reasonable idea even BLOSC-verse-wise.

Hehe, he *does* appear like a robot gone somewhat haywire in the circuits, doesn't he? XDD And certainly likes to surround himself with technology. However, the show hints at him being "organic" several times (he goes to the loo, the green gas turns him into a blob while it doesn't affect XR, he sleeps/snores, et cetera. So from my point of view, he might be human(oid) wearing some kind of exoskeleton or has an amount of robotic body parts.

Yeah, I find TS2's Zurg-Buzz blood relation just too hilarious to ignore, no matter what the show says. They're both rather similar in some aspects (obsessive, egoistic, overly self-confident, etc.), so I say it's because of genetics. XDD

Crivens, TS3 was just pure win, not to mention adorable in every aspect of the word. XD I hadn't laughed so much in a long while. Hooboy, Spanish Buzz...even his silly pompous expressions make me crack up. XD
Too bad Zurg was missing. He's my personal favorite in the show.
