Picking a name means investigating the character's personality. For example, I'm writing a book where one of the protagonists is named Rafe. The name "Rafe" comes from two language sources: One is Germanic, where it is a corruption of "Raedwulf" or "Counsel of the Wolf". The other basically translates the name to mean "shield", or if we go further, "protector". I originally chose the name because it sounded cool when spoken. As the character developed, I decided to figure out what his name meant, and found the above info, which ironically fit the character's personality to a "T".
So, what is this guy like?
