Description
{Starsail 2023 } After the loud noise from Typhoon’s Balloon Pop had sent her running, Artemis found herself dashing through the Starsail Festival’s grounds with ease! Through the grass, between the numerous stalls, around the light poles, under the countless legs of unknown finley-! She travelled a fair distance before her pace slowed to an eventual stop, her journey ending in the middle of the passing crowd. As she stalled to catch her breath her head whipped around, the excited astralit prepared to boast to Pyrite about the way they’d both evaded the noise! However, to her immediate dismay, her sibling wasn’t there. She wasn’t sure they’d even followed her at all. She took no time in surveying her surroundings, rapidly glancing in every direction. Ears and eyes fully alert, she’d realized something; the noise here was overbearing. There was a threatening legion of finley, each towering feet above her, tramping the grass. And while they’d taken care to avoid her, Artemis had the disturbed thought they’d squish her. There was no way she could see anything through all those legs, no way she could see where Pyrite was, no way to see where she’d even come from. She was frozen. Still. Lost. ‘Oh Atmos, lost.’ Artemis’ head stopped its searching, swiftly drooping down, focused straight at her front claws and the grass, attempting to ignore the myriad of finley. However this didn’t stop her sensitive ears from picking up the thunderous steps, scheming whispers, and mischievous giggling, all she was sure were aimed at her. She couldn’t help but wonder what they were planning; whether or not they were laughing because she failed to keep moving, stomping with the intent to harm her, or whispering in ridicule of the tears beginning to well up, dripping onto her claws that firmly tugged the grass. The blades that her eyes had now visually merged with her claws into one indiscernible portrait of warped forest green. Her mind began a spiral of petrifying thoughts. Thoughts of never being able to find her way out. Of what these finley would do if she had continued to stand there, but thoughts that the outcome would be even worse if she’d tried to flee. Shutting her eyes, the thoughts had drowned out the surrounding noise with their greater, unpleasant presence. Artemis shrank. She subtly lowered herself until all four limbs had disappeared beneath her body. How she wished she’d pulled up her hood before she was stuck in this pose, lying in silence. … Artemis’ eyes shot open as she flinched; the claw of a concerned stranger making a series of quick snaps directly in front of her. “Hey, you okay?” The blunt way they spoke had shut down and then amplified the ideas in her head. ‘This is it’ her mind wandered. ‘What’s going to happen if I say no?’ she worried. Other dreadful concepts she tried to shun only found their ways prioritized in her introspection. All possibilities of what could happen depending on this single choice rattled her brain with no space to even think. Artemis swiftly and wearily grinned, quavering a quiet “uhh-huh,” not even awaiting a response before backing up and sprinting out of the way of the crowd. Then towards the outskirts. Away from Starsail. -- Her legs hadn’t carried her too far; Artemis nestled herself within a bush atop one of the hills nearby. The event was still making quite an uproar, but at least from the hill nobody could notice her. She lay facing away from the festivities; the hood around her sensitive ears barely comforting her. Amidst the bustle of the closeby crowd and her own sobbing, she hadn’t noticed the footsteps of the approaching finley. "Hello?" A voice greeted inquisitively. Artemis winced and swiftly turned to face it, easing a bit when seeing a familiar face. Peeking in from behind the bush, the purple whiskers and gold coin on Callisto's face were unmistakable. "You! The- you- box!" Artemis yelped, shuffling toward her slightly. "B-box?" Callisto stuttered. "You made me a box! And you have that shiny thing on your head!" The astralit raised her voice slightly, pointing directly at Callisto's lucky coin. Callisto looked up at it, back at Artemis, then away, tapping their paw on their cheek to think... Seconds later, they shook their head. "I'm sorry, I don't remember-" Artemis looked at her wide-eyed and worried before shrinking back down into the shrubbery, turning away, and readjusting her hood. "Oh," She mewled. Maybe she had been mistaken? How embarrassing... "Ah-! But," Callisto reached out towards her, flustered with how they might've made Artemis uncomfortable. They stepped a pace close to the bush, sitting a little ways away. They leaned and tilted their head to face Artemis. "What're you doing here all alone? I thought I heard crying- Are you okay?" "I'm okay." Callisto frowned. She certainly wasn't. But with no idea what was troubling her and her apparent discomfort, Callisto felt stumped. Unsure of what to say next, they leaned back, looking up at the stars. "It's pretty tonight." They sighed quietly, shifting the subject in hopes Artemis would respond. "A good night for Starsail! It's one of my favorite holidays. Do you like it?" "...It's loud," Artemis whispered bluntly. "Oh, I hear that." Callisto nodded looking back at Artemis, who was still turned away. "And there's so many people-" Artemis strained, gripping her hood tighter. "Yeah, the crowd can get pretty scary." Callisto slowly brought themself up to their feet, dusting off their tails, and sauntered somewhat closer to Artemis, yet still kept their distance. "If it’s too much, it’s always alright to go home!” They chirped with reassuring inflection. “And if you don't know the way, I'll... help...?" They trailed off a bit, aware they weren't the best with directions but willing to assist either way! Artemis finally peeked at Callisto. Her crying had subsided into infrequent sniffling and her eyes gaped at Callisto with faint optimism. Alright to go home–? Would it not be cowardly of her to go home after that? Though, it seemed as if the nyulop knew what they were talking about… They must’ve had experience with the same thing, right? So it was okay to trust them, right? “But-” she squeaked, “I was having fun– It was fun. I want to keep having fun. But on my own, it… got…” she became inaudible, the words she now uttered becoming choked out by meek weeping. "That's good, too!” Callisto grinned, elated she had gotten Artemis comfortable enough to speak again. She ambled to the astralit’s side. “Is it okay if I lay next to you?” She asked with her head cocked to one side, now crouched down. Artemis paused, hesitantly nodding, and Callisto slid down to lie on her stomach. “If you want to go back to Starsail, I could go with you!” "I don't wanna- I mean- ruin-" Artemis once again tugged on her hood, stumbling over her words, anxious it sounded like she despised the idea. She wouldn’t want to impede; this finley was probably already having fun without her. Artemis felt she’d only be a nuisance, being startled by every little thing. "You wouldn't ruin anything!” Callisto softly exclaimed, tapping Artemis with her paw. “I think it'd be really fun to hang out with you." "...Really?" "Yeah! If you want to!" Artemis hiccuped, cautiously crawling out on all fours from under the bush. Glancing down at Callisto, then back at the stalls, she timidly nodded. "Okay." Callisto hopped up to her feet with a mile-wide grin, softly cheering. Artemis gave them a soft smile, though it was evident she was still rather unsettled. Taking notice, Callisto covered her mouth with both paws to hush herself before shyly smiling back. "Maybe we should take a moment to calm down first...?" -------

--There was going to be a story, but I'm never sure with my words, so I'll take a lil' more time on it.-- Lol nvm
But no EXP for the story I took too long
TL;DR - Artemis has run from the Balloon-pop stand, and now, without her sibling, she realizes just how scary the crowd is! She hides in a bush and is found by Callisto, who offers to take her home. But Artemis enjoyed the festival until she was alone in the crowd, so Callisto said they'd go with her if she wanted to see the rest of Starsail!
Of course, Arte forgot to mention someone was probably looking for her, but that's alright, right? No...
