A couple months ago IDW asked me if I had a good suggestion for an artist who could do up a retailer-incentive cover for Samurai Jack #1. Andy Suriano, the regular artist on the series, was slammed with other work and they wanted him to keep plugging away on the interior art for the first issue. Not trying to come across as presumptuous, I asked if I could have a shot at it. Out of all the variant covers, this is my favorite for several reasons. It's so graphic and bold. It's clearly a movie poster, but it's especially reminiscent of the old Japanese movie posters for films that undoubtedly influenced Genndy Tartakovsky in making Jack. Continuing from that, it's really neat that you'd pick such a theme for the issue #1 cover, since the comic is essentially the Jack movie we haven't gotten yet! It really adds to the actual book as a whole. Also, this is the only other time I've seen Aku's red eyes outside of the infamous opening montage from the show, so you forever have my respect for including them. 
I'm so excited for #2 tomorrow! The first issue was beyond anything I could have ever expected. It's clear you not only love and understand the series, but have studied it intensely; honestly, if I didn't know better, I'd think you worked on the show as a writer! So I hope IDW gives you plenty more chances to explore Samurai Jack, even beyond the extension they've supposedly already granted.

Love the book, cant say how glad im happy to see Samurai Jack out thier agian and that your got the chance to write it.
Love the images you did up for the series....man wish i had this cover for #1.

Best of luck with the project when it takes off...Treasure Trove did well and didn't have this kind of exposure...you guys should do well on this series.

As far as I understand it, one of the lead character designers is involved. I've seen Gendy do art for a variant cover, but haven't heard if he's involved in the story telling. I imagine he's retained the right to "finish" the story in the movie that's still in pre-production hell.

I recall it still being in post production because the powerpuff movie bombed so bad that CN doesn't want to back it.
Despite the fans large love of the show.
However, this is speculation.
Personally i don't know how to feel.
While part of me would like to see the story come to a close on a cinematic level I feel depressed knowing Mako won't be returning to Portray Aku sicne he passed away some time ago.
While i am sure a replacement could be found it just wouldn't be the same.

If you've seen the series Avatar the Last Airbender, they actually had to replace Mako for the third season. The actor they got was a friend and student of Mako, and he has a similar cadence.
