Spoiler warning!I decided to redesign Meggy now that the anime arc is finished. Though instead of drawing her like somewhat anime, like she turned out to be, I ended up drawing her like I draw my own characters. And yes I might as well put this in the new design in the Mario and Meggy movie. ( and no I don’t really ship Mario x Meggy, it will be an adventure film).

Well, do you like human Meggy or do you think she’s an ugly cash cow that degrades the channel? The problem here is that your opinion seems inconsistent.

Got it. If I’m being completely honest... I’ve become more aware of SMG4’s flaws over time, and Meggy definitely is involved with some of those flaws. Her human design is really cute, but the fact that she still uses inkling voice clips when Glitch can hire an entire cast of voice actors has always bothered me. That, and her story arc with Desti just feels poorly written in general. Yes, Desti did make an attempt to help save her, but not only did that attempt get rendered more or less useless, but she was doing awful things to Meggy in their last interaction. Yet, Meggy is so upset by Desti’s death that you’d have thought their relationship was romantic. Comes along Meggy’s Destiny and what happens while that ill-founded reverence to Desti continues? A whole team of characters is hyped up and then given no characterization, and there’s apparently a CITYWIDE BAN ON HUMANS THAT SHOULD BE PREVENTING THE PLOT FROM HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE. I swear, Luke and Kevin’s storytelling goes down the drain whenever Meggy takes the spotlight. She deserves better, really.

You know, puberty is actually a pretty good analogy for Meggy. She had her childhood, which was all the time in between “If Mario was in Splatoon” and the Anime Arc, and the Anime Arc was a transition stage in which her characterization started to change and things got awkward. Hopefully, she’ll move beyond that into her “adulthood”, in which she has grown into an interesting and well written character that is completely separate from Splatoon.
I don’t necessarily think Desti should have stayed an antagonist, just... maybe not killed off before her redemption is really complete.
