Lol, no problem. I think lots of your work deserves to be faved. Your style is so impressionist. But it was especially cool to see a landscape rather than a person.

Besides. That house is kickass. I'd want that house. xD

Haha, you deserve to be watched. I intend to request a commission sometime soon, if you still take those.

Was getting started very difficult? I think I'd like to try it.

lemoncookies In reply to lingalinh [2009-07-04 03:14:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I most definitely am still taking commissions.

It wasn't too hard starting out with patterns. The hard thing is making things without patterns. It gets easier with practice. The biggest thing is learning how to anticipate what each stitch will make the final product look.

M'kay. Is there any form you already have for me to fill out, or may I just ask through comments?

Did you get patterns from the internet, or did you find a book? And do you have any advice, such as needle size or what type of yarn to use? Or is that stuff more by preference?

lemoncookies In reply to lingalinh [2009-07-04 03:41:01 +0000 UTC]

If you could note me, that would be great. We can work it out there.

A lot of the things like yarn and needle size are much left to preference. I usually use Caron supersoft yarn - I find it looks the best and it comes in almost every color imaginable. I also use a 2.25mm needle or a 3.75mm needle, depending on what I am making.

And could you send me the link for Planet June again?
It didn't work in the comment you sent it in.

lingalinh In reply to lemoncookies [2009-07-04 03:50:35 +0000 UTC]

Will do.

Are there any specific websites or books that you found particularly helpful when you first started out?

And how does needle size/gauge affect what you're making?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemoncookies In reply to lingalinh [2009-07-04 03:58:46 +0000 UTC]

There are a few sites that might be helpful - I like Ami List and Planet June. They are both very helpful.

As to the gauge - the larger hook you use, the larger your gauge is. This can affect the size of the piece and the tightness of the stitches. Smaller hook - tighter stitches.

Ah, thanks.
I just sent you the note.

And one last question --
Did you crochet first, and then discover amigurumi, or did you start crocheting because you wanted to do amigurumi?

Because I've never crocheted before, and I'm curious as to whether prior experience with crocheting is necessary for amigumuri.

lemoncookies In reply to lingalinh [2009-07-04 04:12:31 +0000 UTC]

I did know how to crochet before, but I don't think it is necessary to know how before you start amigurumi. you will learn as you go along, just as you would if you learned to crochet first.

Haha, it was well deserved. I love your style, your diction. It instantly captivated me and held my attention.

I'm sure you could make even the most mundane things/concepts seem interesting. You've probably already done that, and I just haven't read it yet.
