Still playing around with Iray. Trying to find that delicate balance between oily and soft skin. This one has been done for awhile, but I've been hanging onto it because I'm not sure if I like it or not. I'd be interested to know which look you prefer better, or if you like them equally. This one is the slightly oily version of her skin, and here is the soft skin version . I may end up using both versions to some degree. We'll see.

Coloured skin isn't easy. I know, I've tried a lot. Translucency is the key to the nightmare! I'd say between the two you're on the right track for looks, I can't say which is better, given lighting will trash one skin over the other. I personally stay away from shinny skin since sun lit scenes like a jungle scene will turn the skin into a saran-wrap look, but then when you don't have enough shine you get chalk. like this...

So back to translucency with the right setting can be too much and lead to toon settings. So here is a hint to help for realism, Use the skins Specular map as the Glossy Layered Weight map and set the number at around .20-.25 and for the translucency a soft blue for Fern if you haven't already. .40 to .55 . Good luck.

I agree. It's terribly difficult to make colored skin not look like it's playschool plastic. I had the same problem with SSS mats. I think I'm getting there though. It's only a matter of time. :l

The furious storm of emotions, anger, fear, hatred, love, passion and the swirling chaos when they mix, the erratic thoughts running wild until your being reaches a blissful state of oblivion, ah, THAT's life.
Emotions DO exist and they are SO much more fun than being the emotionless droids the Jedi would turn you into.
That said, she looks so deceivingly innocent, here, I can't help but think she could use a ... proper lesson. A bit of something the Jedi wont teach her.

Funny enough, I think she looks softer here than in the "soft skin version" you linked - although that could be due to the lighting.
Not bad at all, like it. BUT a bit dark, in comparison. I think if you could brighten it up, maybe ...

Most everyone likes the softer version (the linked one). I'll still keep working on perfecting these different skin textures though. I sort of like both. I do agree though I like it brighter then What this one is. So we'll see what I come up with next time I fiddle with these. Thanks for your input. It is much appreciated.

Hmm...perhaps you could have the two versions standing back to back so that we can see the difference. Also in an area with lighting, perhaps a beach scene? At the moment I like the soft skin more but that is more...animated while this one looks more realistic. Hope that helps and keep up the great work.

Ooo... That might be a little too much work for me right now. Maybe some day though. I have yet to render anything new in Daz yet since I've come back. This is still stuff that I did prior to loosing my sight for those couple of months. I'm kinda nervous to get back into it, if truth be told. 
As far as skin choices, You're on the side with the majority of votes. The soft skin version is beating this one hands down. I'll probably keep working with both of them and see where it leads. Thank you as always though for your helpful input and the compliments. I truly appreciate it.

Oh, I didn't realized that. Take your time, don't want to try the Eye gods' mercy 
the oil skin could work in dark wet settings while the soft is more all around pleasing, I think that makes sense.

Thanks! She's always changing shape-wise... I thought you knew that. This shape was from a series of renders where I made her look like a monster high doll, but then put her regular head back on and shortened her arms and legs back down. It was kind of cool, but I never posted them. Maybe I'll show you sometime.
Soft seems to be the way to go I guess. Everyone seems to like that it better then the oily version. Who am I to disagree, lol!

While the oiler form has its own appeal I am more partial to the soft skin version. It has a bolder far more outstanding appeal the model appears more solid and real, while this works more if you are trying , as the lighting makes it feel she and the background are one. While you may prefer it I like the bold, soft skin one better

I think for standard, the "soft" is nicer. This does make her look like she's been rubbed down with oil, which, you know, certainly has a time and place.

For me, this oily skin gives me the impression of tanned skin, somehow. Great job.
