Description
Another character and I came up with. He works together with the jackal warrior I posted some days ago, and other members we have yet to draw. Like I said on the other drawing, we have no clue if these character will ever be used, so far we are only having fun coming up with new ideas! ^^Of course working with Titus it was inevitable one of the characters would be a serval. This one isn't a regular whimpy serval, though, he's a great crossbowman and also a skilled alchemist, which means he can create poisons, explosives and potions of many kinds.Β (those balls hanging from his waist are bombs, by the way)

Yep! The good thing is it needed way less training to be used compared to a longbow.
I disagree, maybe a heavy crossbow could pierce an older plate armor (1300's ones maybe) but Renaissance armors were pretty much invulnerable to bolts as well. Crossbows have been around for a long time, what really made armor obsolete was the improvement of firearms. After the evolution of muskets and artillery during the 1600's it made pretty much no sense to wear armor anymore, with the exception of heavy chavalry like ussars and dragoons.

Such a cute character! but this one looks more cute kind of mischievous than their friend.. who kinda looked like she had true evil plans!
Also I really like the crossbow and the cloak, then again I generally love cloaks

I am reminded of a scene in the 70's movie 'The four Musketeers' were the Musketeer's opponents shoot bombs with their special crossbows.
They were at the siege of La Rochelle and needed to talk without any of the Cardinal's spies listening in. So they made a bet to have breakfast at a bastion that was just cleared from the protestant rebels, but could not be held.

I guess it could be done, but not with a negular crossbow, it would need some modifications.

Yeah, if you are barly trained with it, you'd keep the fuse long so it won't blow up in your face. That's the only reason it works out for the heroes.
As shown in the clip. Though it's funny. You only see characters in fantasy with on, maybe two kinds of weapons, even in RPG's despite there being mentioned several variants. Especially the elves in fantasy could carry three different bows. The classic longbow, a shortbow to use from horseback and I've seen an even shorter bow that was used mostly fr hunting fish.
In that regard it would be interesting to see a crossbow specialist with one or two hand crossbows (though you'd have to be inventive on how he carries them) a normal and a heavy crossbow... now there is a picture. A soldier with a shield that has a hole and a bolt in it, looking surprised at the bolt that went through his shield and armour. On the other side a crossbowman with a normal crossbow on the groud, using a winch to load a heavy crossbow telling a comrade: "That's why I carry two crossbows."
