Description
"Only those who have spent their life in war can understand the true meaning of peace and fight to preserve it."
My character Enorach is finally enjoying some peace after he fought all over the known world...
Seriously, I've never tried to paint something like this before...sun and sea, it was really hard! It started as an experiment about "weird sitting positions and sunset" but I'm very happy of the result! The sea is "skew" because I have bad aim with the camera.
!!! I really want to improve my drawing and coloring skills, so if you have any suggestion or critique they are more than welcome!
Edit - I used another camera and this time I am glad of the result ^^ The immage is much bigger, the colors more similar to the original work and the details are clear!

So you know, "Quite" is actually spelled wrong, if you meant "Quiet" you need to switch the "t" and the "e" around to make it that word.

My pleasure Olaffson, I can't believe anyone didn't notice that. But for me I'm a grammar freak, when I see errors in people's grammar I have to correct it, it's just what I do. No worries tho!

I got two suggestions for you:
1. Play more with the shadows. If your source of light is located at a distance and at a low angle, then all the objects that interfere with the light rays should create long shadows. This would add more realism to your style.
2. Reconsider the hierarchy of the elements that constitue your drawing. Example: Your character here is looking at the spectator and not at the beautiful scenery he has infront.
I like your style. keep it up, you are a talented artist.

You're totally right, I should have indeed made longer shadows, probably a bit darker too. I really didn't consider the light's direction ^^
About the look it was supposed to be something like "someone is coming and he looks at them" but in hindsight it was maybe better to make him look at the landscape. This work is almost a year old but I've never thought about the "hierarchy elements" before
Thank you so much! You have no idea how useful these suggestions are, I'll be sure to keep them in mind! (sorry for the late reply)

Hello:
I like the colors and how you painted this image a lot. It sure looks like a peaceful sunset .
I can see your character does not have that huge sword in this image, but ouch he has a lot of scars .

Thank you Glad you like it!
Actually, he never uses that huge sword, I only drew him like that just for fun ^^ He usually fights with a saber and a huge dagger, and yes he's full of scars. He didn't spend an easy life XD

Hello:
Well, at least it looks like that none of those injuries are debilitating or anything, hehehe. But still ouch >_< .
I do have a character that is a leopard, so I was thinking, would you have a reference made for your character with all those spots "mapped-out"? because felines' spots (and stripes depending on the case) are unique for each one.

0laffson In reply to Chiletrek [2014-11-13 13:14:21 +0000 UTC]
No, keeping track of all those spots would be a suicide. I make them different every time, except maybe the face ones If I have some bigger or particular marking I try to keep it

Hello:
That is indeed a good idea that I have thought myself too, because the face is the most noticeable part of a character's body (except for the Power Rangers maybe, hehehe).
Well, then better to save ourselves from suicidal art then .

Thank you! Yup, I have a soft spot for cats...I don't like other kinds of anthros so much. And since I needed a non-human character I made a cat XD

Even if you're not pleased with the photograph, it's easily apparent that this artwork is amazing. The character alone would be pretty cool, with his entrancing spots and scars. But it's the scenery that really kicks this up a notch for me. The pretty sky... The water with its delicate ripples... And the foliage, near and far, detailed and zoomed out... Wow. The whole scene is incredibly appealing for that. Plus, your style overall is just fabulous. <3 I really dig the thin, lacy ink work with awesome hatches and strokes for texture and shading. The shading is great color-wise, as well. I really adore how the warm yellow-orange light shines on the character and parts of the scenery, such as the little islands in the backdrop.
Amazing work on the whole thing. You rock!

You're absolutely amazing with watercolours.
The amount of detail in this painting is amazing, yet I always gawk at you you manage to keep it from looking cluttered.
What always strikes me about your work are the thin precise linework, not to mention the way you place your paint; vibrant but yet with the light watercolour feel.
I feel I can learn a lot about shading with traditional media by studying your work :u
Oh, and just love the pose and over the shoulder look here
