Description
Well friends, finally, here is the third part of this little story from The Jungle Book.I hope you enjoy it. And do not hesitate to tell me what you thought.
Without more to say, enjoy today's episode.
............
It had already been three months since Mowgli had arrived at the human village. Half of that time, the boy had been locked up, away from the rest of the village, but thanks to the help of the village chief, Nathoo and his younger sister, Leela, Mowgli was slowly accepted by most of the people, except of a small handful of villagers, led by Buldeo, an arrogant and grumpy hunter.
Despite that, Mowgli lived quietly in the place. However, the boy had not forgotten his family of wolves, and he was still in his plans to return to his home in the jungle, as soon as the rainy season will end, since due to this, the river that separated the area from the Seeonee and the human zone had grown too large since Mowgli had come to the village and it was dangerous to cross it now.
The situation worried the boy a lot, but as his friend Bagheera said, "One must be cautious in the face of danger, great or small."
The boy then concentrated on learning more about humans. He was already fluent in the language of the village to perfection, and had learned to create new tools that would undoubtedly help him a great deal when he returned to the Savage life of him.
This was a slightly calmer and warmer day. The rains would soon end, and that cheered the boy, who was walking through town, while he was looking for a certain older human.
- Nathoo !. - Shouted the boy as he ran towards the head of the village.
- Ohhh, Hi Mowgli, how are you doing today? - The young Chief answered kindly.
- I do very well. What will we do today? Will we go hunting? Or will we make more tools? - Said the boy, while he made little jumps.
- Sorry, my friend. But we will have to postpone today's activity.
- What? Why?. - The boy answered, with a disappointed tone.
- Well, today we will have guests in the village and I will be in charge of guiding them to some places in the area.
- Ohhh… Can I go with you?
- Hehehe, believe me, I would like to, but they will do something very important, it will be a botanical study and it will surely not be interesting for you.
- A what of what ?.
- Right, "Child of the jungle", basically, those people will observe plants and insects all day.
- That's boring ... But how boring.
- Hehe, maybe for you, hyperactive little wolf.
Suddenly, a little girl with pigtails and a skirt appeared at the scene.
- Hello Brother. - answered Nathoo's little sister
- Hi Leela. - The older one answered.
- Hey Leela, since Nathoo is going to see plants, we can play all day outside the village. - said Mowgli.
-Sorry Mowgli, but today I'll be busy helping my friends with some decorations for tonight's celebration, so I won't be able to play today. - Leela answered.
- Ohhh ... I see ... Well, then I think I'll keep walking around ... Just by myself. - Said the little savage, while he slowly moved away from the place.
- Wait Mowgli, before that, there is something we can do together. - Leela said, taking the boy's hand.
"Really?" The boy replied, his eyes fully illuminated.
Ten minutes later.
- Leave me now! My eyes burn me! - shouted the little boy from the jungle.
- Maybe if you stay still for a moment ...
Leave me now, help!
- What a crybaby, not even babies complain so much when they take a bath.
- They are treated with affection, you try to kill me. - Mowgli said while he tried to avoid that suffering called "shower".
After that moment of terror (only for Mowgli), the little wolf boy found himself walking in complete solitude through the village.
- Great, I'm ignored again. It's like coming home to the wolf pack. - said the child in his head.
After a short walk, the boy could see how some elephants left the village to enter the jungle, all except for one who was near the place, eating their respective food.
- Hi Hati. - The black haired boy greeted, as he ran to where his pachyderm friend was.
- Oh my, just look, the little boy from the jungle. - pleased the elephant in a friendly way.
-How's breakfast?
- Very good, I'm not complaining at all. And how are you? I haven't seen you around here for days.
- Yes ... I was busy with Nathoo and Leela ... But, today they are busy and I don't know what to do to have fun around here.
- You can get me more food.
- Nice try.
- Hehehe, well, don't worry, I'm sure you'll find something to have fun with. I have seen some human children have fun with those little things called "toys", have you tried that?
- Yes, but I got even more bored. I prefer to do more exciting things, things that are challenging or challenging for me.
At that precise moment, a scream was heard from the other side of one of the walls that protected the village.
- Hey Hati, it's me or so came the cry of an otter with a very high voice. - said Mowgli.
- No ... I've heard that scream before. Surely that kid is already throwing one of his tantrums again. - Hati replied.
- A kid?
Hati, using his long, strong trunk, lifted Mowgli to the top of one of the nearby trees.
From the top, Mowgli could see how someone tried to jump from one of the walls, towards a branch, without much success. It was a human, not just anyone, but a human child.
- Hey, it's true Hati, there is a human trying to leave the village. But… It's weird, I don't remember seeing him around here before. - Mowgli answered.
-That's because he doesn't belong to the village. He is the cub of the humans who came to investigate plants and insects. He has only been here a couple of times in the past, and he always tries to make a mess wherever he wants him to go.
Mowgli turned his gaze back to where that new child was.
He was about a boy with blond hair, strange clothes and strange artifacts in his eyes, much like mirrors, something totally new for Mowgli.
After several attempts, the blond-haired boy had finally managed to get out of the village, with some bumps and scratches due to the fall.
- Hey Hati, that boy is going to the jungle.
- Yes ... They will surely eat him alive. Anyway, if I don't see him, he never happened. - answered the elephant, who decided to ignore what was happening.
Mowgli thought about it for a few minutes, he had given Leela his word that he would not leave the village, but that boy seemed like he had no idea where he was going or what he was doing. If the jungle was already dangerous for someone like Mowgli, who was practically an expert in the area, that blond boy was definitely doomed to end up hurt or as someone's snack.
- I'd better go get it.
- Okay, I'm not going to stop you. I'll stay here to see that the rescue mission doesn't go wrong. - The elephant replied, with a military tone.
- Aha ... You'll stay here, eating and doing nothing, right? - Asked the boy, even though he already knew the answer.
- Hey, it's called surveillance… But yes. Good luck little wolf.
- You are really helpful, Hati. - the boy replied sarcastically.
In one swift, nimble move, Mowgli was already outside the village, swinging through the trees, just staring at the boy below.
After a long walk, the blond young man decided to rest at the foot of a tree, something that Mowgli saw as the perfect opportunity to take him back to the village.
- Silly jungle, this is all ridiculous, totally ridiculous. I've been walking for a long time and there are not even interesting things here. - Said the boy with blond hair.
- interesting stuff?.
With a loud cry full of fear, the blond boy fell back to the ground, scared by what was in front of him. It was a child, a boy with black hair, with a red loincloth hanging upside down, supported by a vine.
- What the hell? - Shouted the boy who was on the floor.
- I'm not a demon ... Whatever it is. - Mowgli answered.
Upon rejoining, the blond boy began to shake his clothes, showing a rather annoyed attitude now.
- Who are you supposed to be? Tarzan King of the Apes?
- No ... I'm not an ape. (Why does that name sound familiar to me?), I'm Mowgli, nice to meet you. - The young savage replied, proud to show what he had learned from Leela regarding "good manners."
- Well, I'm not interested, now, get out of my way. You are hindering my investigation.-replied the blonde, completely ignoring Mowgli's greeting.
- Investigation?. What's that?. - Asked the black haired boy, pretending that that last rudeness had not happened.
- I observe and study the life of animals.
- Like insects and plants?
- That's not interesting. I want to see wolves, crocodiles or maybe a tiger.
Hearing that last word, a small chill ran through Mowgli's body.
- Trust me, in my personal experience, the last thing you want to find here is an angry Tiger.
- and how do you know?
- Well, I live in the jungle, and if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that messing with a Tiger is a bad idea. - Mowgli replied, while he remembered his encounters with Shere Khan.
The other boy just started laughing.
Hahahaha, you? Do you live in the jungle? That is the biggest nonsense I have ever heard in my entire life.
Mowgli came down from the place where he was, those words had not liked at all.
- why is it silly? - Asked the wild boy annoyed.
- You are a boy. No child can survive in the jungle ... Sure, except for me, of course. - The other boy answered, showing a very arrogant attitude.
This boy was looking for trouble, and Mowgli would not stay to watch this scene.
- Okay ... I ended up here. Goodbye. - With those words, Mowgli turned around and started walking back to the village?
- Hey, where are you going? - Shouted the boy with blond hair.
- I've already heard those words in the past. And honestly, I'm not in the mood for that again. - Mowgli answered, who did not look at the other boy.
- Ha, that shows that I was right. Only I could survive here in the jungle, I am a brave explorer and you are just a scared child. - Shouted the blond.
Mowgli no longer paid attention to the other boy's words. The wild child decided that it was better to go play somewhere away from that nuisance ink.
In the past, hearing those words, Mowgli would not have hesitated for a moment to attack that "clumsy blond boy", but fortunately, Gray, his older brother, had taught him to control his anger to perfection. He had no point starting unnecessary fights.
In one swift movement, Mowgli climbed one of the trees that were there. At the top, the boy was able to observe how The river that was near the limit of the village was higher than normal, it was certainly very dangerous to cross at that time. But a certain "brave explorer" was not aware of it.
The blond boy had already reached the riverbank.
- Perfect, maybe I can swim across, it's a piece of cake.
The boy did not have time to react, since the place where he was standing was not completely stable, and with very little effort, the earth began to crack and immediately fell straight into the river, which also made the boy fall .
The young blond tried to get out of the water, but the current was so strong that any effort was in vain. The boy was running out of energy. In a few minutes he could no longer breathe.
It was when a hand grabbed the boy from behind, pulling him out of his agony.
Mowgli had arrived in time to save the boy from certain death.
- Phew, that was exhausting. I think I need a break. - The little black hair answered, while he recovered his breath. Nothing compared to the blond boy, who kept spitting water.
After a few moments, they were both in better shape.
- I didn't need your help. - The blond answered.
- We both know that is not true, you almost drowned there, and if you had not arrived in time, you would have ended up at the bottom of the river. - Mowgli answered.
- Not true, I would have gone out on my own. I am a great explorer. Nothing scares me.
- Of course not, you are just a reckless and foolish boy who almost ... He died.
Saying those last words, Mowgli fell backward to the floor. He now he already knew what it felt like to be in the shoes of his friends, who were always watching over him so that he did not get into trouble.
After a few minutes, both children started their way back to the village, still annoyed with each other.
Mowgli walked on his own, enjoying his walk. The boy loved the little showers in the jungle. He felt very refreshing.
Mowgli was so distracted with his personal training that he didn't notice that the young blond boy was having the worst time of his life.
- This is horrible. The jungle is the worst. Everything here is silly. - grumbled the child.
In that short walk, the blond-haired boy had already tripped over the roots of the trees at least ten times, had been bitten by various insects, and had fallen into a huge pool of thick mud, where he had lost his shoes.
At every moment, Mowgli was there to help him, feeling a kind of satisfaction in each of those misfortunes that the boy suffered.
- Is this funny to you?
- The truth ... Yes, very funny.
- You are a fool.
- Hey, I was not the one who is almost crocodile food.
- I didn't need your help! . I don't need anyone to help me! . I am a brave explorer and I know how to take care of myself….
The boy could not continue, because hundreds of hairy hands had taken him from the ground and raised him to the top of the trees.
It was a group of monkeys that had been following both children for a while.
Mowgli couldn't help but laugh at the situation, as the monkeys were simply having fun with the blond boy, throwing him from one side to the other, causing the boy to scream in terror due to the pirouettes.
- Well, well, look what we have here, a little pale man-cub. - Said one of the monkeys, while he removed the boy's upper garments from him.
- Mmmm, I don't know, do you think this boy is the one she's looking for? Look at him, he's very skinny. - answered another of the monkeys.
- A man-cub is a man-cub.
The blond young man, who had already been stripped of most of his clothes, except for his shorts, began to cry in despair, which made the monkeys laugh even louder.
On his part, Mowgli decided that this had been enough. Making someone cry was not okay.
The Wild child quickly went up to where those monkeys were.
- Very well flea monkeys, that was enough, let it go right now or else you will see them with me.- the jungle boy replied, with a rather annoying tone.
- HAHA, look at this, another man-cub. And he wants us to give him our prey. - The chief of the monkeys replied with a laugh.
- I'm not going to say it again! Leave the boy alone! - Mowgli shouted.
- First, you have to catch us.
Saying this, the monkeys began to swing away from that place. The monkeys began to throw the blond-haired boy from side to side, who could only scream.
Mowgli did not hesitate to follow them, but this situation was not common in monkeys.
Mowgli had been kidnapped by them in the past, and despite the monkeys' madness, it was all for a reason.
Mowgli was sure something similar was happening.
The monkeys are about to reach the thickest part of the area.
- We are almost there, we deliver the child and we will have our reward. - shouted one of the monkeys.
Mowgli knew that if the monkeys reached the top of those trees, nothing would prevent them from reaching the other side of the forest, and the boy could not do anything about it, since a jump at that distance was easy for them, but impossible for him.
The wild child would not let those animals get away with it. In one last effort, and before the lead monkey, who was carrying the blonde, made that huge leap, Mowgli managed to grab the boy's leg.
The monkey could not do anything about it, in his carelessness, the animal fell into the river, losing itself in that angry current.
Mowgli and the other boy took advantage of this moment to escape.
Night had fallen, and a light rain began to fall in that area. The rest of the monkeys, furious at the loss of their companion, gave up looking for the children, as it was already risky for them to approach the human village.
Defeated and annoyed, the Bandar Logs left the place, all this before the eyes of the children, who were hidden between the leaves of a thick tree.
- Finally ... That was intense. - Mowgli sighed, relieved that all that chasing was over.
The other boy on his side, had his body covered in scratches and blows, because of the monkeys. All that pain was enough for the boy to start shedding some tears.
Mowgli, noticing this, decided that he would not make fun of him. After all, he had already been through a similar situation.
- Hey kid, I think this is yours. - Mowgli answered, while from his loincloth he took out a pair of circular glasses.
- My eyeglasses! Where did you find them? - The blond answered, happy to recover that small personal possession of him.
- I took them before they hit the floor, just when that monkey caught you. - Mowgli replied.
- What a scout it turns out to be. I almost died twice today. - The blond answered in a downcast tone.
-Well, if he makes you feel better, I'm not a great explorer either. I'm not a great hunter either. On many occasions I have been on the verge of dying.
- Really?
- Yes. I was almost killed recently by a gigantic snake woman.
- One that?
- Hehehe, it's a long story. But if I have learned something from all those experiences, it is that I have to stop taking things lightly. I'm still a cub, and I still have a lot to learn, but if I try hard enough, I know I'll be a great hunter and a great wolf. - Mowgli replied.
The wild boy had already understood. Learning from mistakes is making a lesson of them, to be better people and become wiser.
- Why are you telling me this? - asked the blond.
- Because you and I are the same, we must learn to take care of ourselves and learn from our mistakes, so that we can earn everyone's respect. That's what you want, isn't it?
The blond boy did not reply. But he knew that the boy was right.
- Well, it will be better to go back to the village…. Ahhh, I still don't know your name.
- Teddy… my name is Teddy.
- … What a strange name. - Mowgli answered, giving a small playful smile.
- Yes, I know, but Mowgli is weirder. - The boy answered, with the same tone of voice.
Both children laughed for a long time.
That night, during a light drizzle deep in the jungle, a new friendship had been born, and that friendship would last for many, many years.
But that, that will be another story.
..........
and that have been all. If you're wondering ... Who is Teddy? Well, I'll just say this kid. In the future, a small and very energetic mongoose will be met. Do you know who he spoke of?
Well. That's all. See you later.
