okay.

question: the section you've named 'cylinder' that forms the circular rim to the camera lense, did you model that with bools?

100SeedlessPenguins In reply to lycan-rising [2010-09-27 17:20:33 +0000 UTC]

ooops . i should have renamed those . no . i did not use a boole on that piece . i made the frame , front , and eye pieces from one Cylinder then Split the selections so i could add different colors . there is some way to assign multiple materials to one object based on specific selections but i do not know how to do that so i just Split

the other object called Cylinder that has the Glass material is just a Cylinder with the Splice set

Wow...all from one cylinder? So im guessing you did a lot of cutting with the knife tool and what-not?

random knowledge base: if you highlight a bunch of polygons then go to selection->set selection you will see a red triangle appear in the tag section of the attributed manager. This is 'polygon selection' You can do it as many times as you like to an object, but just be sure to click off one tag before making another selection otherwise you will override it.

You can then click on the texture tag and under 'selection' drag and drop your selection tag. This will make the texture affect only that selection.

That's how I textured my bullet for my sg552 since it was far easier to model it using a single spline and make a selection that it would be to perfectly model two different objects (and i didn't know about 'split' before)

thank you. but shame i can't make stuff the way you do...it always goes wrong when i do my DIY texturing.

man i have just as many problems . the only solution i know is to keep tweaking it and then keep tweaking it . it's always a pain to get a good render . i've been thinking of buying a premade light/scene set

lycan-rising In reply to 100SeedlessPenguins [2010-09-28 18:16:59 +0000 UTC]

or, simply, make your own. Stick in a sky/background/walls, adjust the light levels, maybe set some user data to control colours/mood/tone and then use that as a preset.

*is given an idea*

that's pretty insane. Must have taken him a while to get that right in xpresso. if you want to fork out the cash for it then sure, i think if i wanted quick renders i'd just download some HDRI maps. or mess with lighting myself. just cause thats how i role.

just HDR's aren't enough to get results like that . plus this is a complete package that i can use over and over . i get it right every once in a while myself but it's a lot of work . with a set like this i think i will be able to throw any model in it and it will look okay

i think i'm going to put gun on a table in the Control Room (beside the cake) . it won't be in the view but you'll be able to see it in the reflections on the Core . i thought that would be a nice touch

Rubna In reply to 100SeedlessPenguins [2010-09-27 13:41:02 +0000 UTC]

or maybe we could lay them all around the test chamber, presenting all the people who died there (would that make sense? I mean, I would take back the gun if someone failed the test...) You're idea is great too, so it has a feeling the'res a lot time spent to it (which probably IS the case)
