Anyone notice how much these two are becoming alike. Not only because they read, but they are both learning more and stepping into positions as leaders. Out of all of them, I think that Rainbow is the perfect polar opposite of Twilight and they compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses well.
However, I think Twilight is just trying to get a smart, nerdy friend.
Twilight: What do you think of anime?
Rainbow: Oh, I LOVE anime! From the visual style, to unique storytelling, to the way all characters gasp for three episodes at the realization of something completely apparent to the audience. Oh and...wait a minute!

I spent way too long figuring out that what Rainbow said makes sense but I'm still not sure.
I will point out that the triangle on Twilight's diagram isn't an isosceles right triangle, though.

She's just using the Pythagorean Theorem (a^2+b^2 = c^2) where c is known.
In this special case, a=b. Therefore,
2a^2 = c^2
which we solve for a.
a = sqrt(c^2/2)
Which is, indeed, the square root of half the square of the hypotenuse.

In my home country, we represent right angles with a semi-circle and a dot, as seen in the diagram and on the plan for the barn. I thought this was universal, but turns out it isn't.
So the triangle on Twilights board is (supposed to be) right, but not isosceles.
But the formula that Rainbow uses can be deduced from the formula for general right triangles (a²+b²=c²) which is on the board. You just have to replace b with another a (because they are the same length in an isosceles triangle), then solve for a. So Rainbow didn't only learn the general information on Twilights board, but she used it in the correct way to come up with a solution for a specific problem.
