Depending on your display, it because the video driver is telling the pixels around Twilight's horn to dim the blue and green sub-pixels while keeping the red ones brighter. As I said earlier, it depends on your display because I can do this by either physically dimming if it is a LED, or blocking light if it is an LCD.

When I first drew Twilights magic, I started a Google Image search for Twi doing magic, and the color on most of the images looked red to me, so I stuck to it. Now that you asked, I did some research and it turns out the color is supposed to be a dark pink (starting during the second season). I'll change to that in the future.
