Description
Twilight wanted a purpose, but all she got was a new title and a fancy house. Looks like she has to find her purpose for herself!I decided to ditch eyelashes for good since I keep forgetting them anyway. Though I'll probably still draw them on characters with an emphasis on femininity (like Rarity).
The picture of Mafia Octavia in the background of panel 3 is by the one and only
Here is a bigger Version of the Watchtower magazine from panel 4, since it's kind of hard to read. The cover picture is a screenshot from the show.
Disclaimer: I'm not intentionally making fun of anyones religious believes, only on the practice of bothering total strangers early in the morning.

I'm Mormon, and I find this very amusing because it almost reminds me of my time as a missionary.

This made me laugh! I am a Jehovah's Wittness, and I took no offence. I do know someone who would but I ain't saying names
Doing service is boring. It isn't fun to be flipped off by a busy mother. (That's actually happened to me.)

funny story: one time, when someone knocked on my door, i looked out of my window, and since i couldnt see any cars, i tried to improve my dog imitation. think of it as if Sombra had to cough.
and think of them as Snips and Snails being chased by an Ursa Minor
i was at home alone that day and i dont like being disturbed when im alone.

As a Witness myself, my only reaction is this:
Meh.
Offensive, maybe, but yes, I don't find "jokes" like this funny. All I see is "Yes, this exists. Moving on." Stuff like this needs some sort of unique spin on it to be funny.

I can appreciate the humor in this, but, as a Jehovah's Witness, it sorta bothers me when people act as though we exist solely to piss people off at 10 AM.
As it turns out, Jehovah's Witnesses don't exactly love speaking with random strangers as much as the next guy. It's not too fun to knock on a door, only to be screamed at, have a shotgun shoved into your chest, or dirty dishwater thrown on you from an upstairs window, etc. Most people are pretty neutral, but we do know that pretty much everyone seems to hate us, and it's not really the best feeling.
I'm not claiming that you're doing any of that, but I see these sorts of jokes everywhere and it feels kinda dehumanizing. As though my only impact on the world is people assuming I just show up at someone's house early in the morning, ask if they "have a moment to spare for our lord and savior Jesus Christ" (Which, by the way, you should almost never actually hear a Jehovah's Witness say. Might be Mormons, I have no idea.), get rejected, then vanish from existence.
Again, I get the joke, but it's sort of offensive to actual Jehovah's Witnesses.
Now that that's all out in the open, I like your art style. The background are well drawn, and the characters looks slightly more stylized, although still similar to the show's style. Very appealing.
Didn't mean to piss anyone off, just needed to get that all off my chest. Sorry if I've offended you. :[

Well, people don't get shot at every day. That stuff's pretty rare. Although, I can say that I've either personally experienced, or seen others experience, all the things I described, and people are very often remarkably aggressive or rude. We'll occasionally get a positive reaction, which is more or less what makes it worth it.
We do it because we think it's important, pretty much. Not much else to be said there.

Wow. That was a well informed and persuasive argument. Congratulations good sir, I hath been authoritatively rekt.
Seriously though, that's no way to get your point across, and is sort of offensive. Well, not even sort of, it's completely offensive. I imagine you were aware of that and just don't care, but I figured I'd mention it anyway. Insulting someone else based on their religious views isn't cool under any condition, online or in person.
Also, it's Jehovah's Witness, not Jehovah Witness. Common mistake, though.

π: 0 β©: 1
BrotherGrapefruit In reply to KnightmareRandomDash [2014-07-29 14:59:35 +0000 UTC]
Alright, quite a number of faults with that logic. I'll go in order.
1.) We barge into no one's home. We knock on a door. If you answer, we'll offer you a free magazine or something similar, possibly ask a question related to the topic. If you seem interested, we may start a discussion. If you say you're not interested, we leave. That's all there is to it. Everything involved in what we do is based on your response. We don't force you to listen, and we certainly don't "barge in".
2.) Generally, religion isn't actually what we're asking about. The magazines are generally focused on a random subject, usually with some sort of biblical references and other such things. We know most people don't feel like talking at length about religion, especially if they're not a follower of the religion being talked about.
3.) What you're doing is right now is, 1, not the same in any respect, and 2, not about religion. To claim you're doing what we do is extremely inaccurate. You've not actually attempted to inform me of anything in particular, asides from that you don't appreciate my presence in a digital comments section, which in itself seems pretty trivial. Telling me to go away because I'm a member of a religion you're not particularly fond of doesn't get any sort of legitimate point across, and is, as I said before, extremely rude and untactful. For example, if you were to say that same thing to someone who was Muslim or Jewish, I'm certain you'd be met with quite a negative response.
Basically, don't insult people for being of a different religion than you. It's counter productive and gains absolutely nothing for anyone. Seriously, my personal existence has never affected you in any way whatsoever, but reading my comment somehow stirs some deep, inner emotional desire to insult me? I'd really hope you can see why that doesn't make much sense. I don't mean to argue or get into a piss fight with you. I'm just saying it's not kind to throw insults at others. Ever. Basic stuff, dude.

I'm having trouble understanding what that sentence was supposed to mean, but I think I got it.
I never said I wasn't offended. In fact, I said multiple times that your statement was offensive, and would be offensive to anyone and everyone you'd say it to. Since you seem to have completely missed my point, I'll repeat it in simple terms, since you seem so remarkably upset with me for writing too many words. So, just for you, here's the short version;
Don't be a jerk to people.
That's really all there is to say on the matter.

The only time i got in personal contact with Jehovah's Witnesses where when they came to me to tell me that i live my life wrong. And they did it twice.
I may live a "bad" life, but no one have the right to tell me that without knowing me. For me it don't matter what you think, believe or dream. I build my opinion on your actions. I take it personal if someone judge my actions badly because of my believes, thoughts or dreams.

BrotherGrapefruit In reply to brainodwash [2014-07-17 18:08:48 +0000 UTC]
I'll take a moment to say, that shouldn't have happened. Jehovah's Witnesses are generally meant to be non-confrontational, and we're definitely not supposed to tell anyone that the way they live life is wrong. It's rude, uncalled for, and untactful, and I apologize for your negative experience. I personally don't really think it's great to judge an entire religious people based on the actions of 2 of them, just as much as it's improper to judge your life based on a first encounter. We, as humans, tend to be quick to judge large groups based on whichever members of that group we happen to see first, because it's generally much easier and more efficient to be that way. However, I assure you, the majority of Jehovah's Witnesses don't do that. At least, none of the ones I've met. Basically, what I'm saying is, as much as it's not okay for us to come to your house and judge you without actually knowing you, it's not best to judge the entirety of a religion based on the actions of one or two members.
Again, I'm deeply sorry for your negative experience. I mean you no disrespect. If you found any of what I've said offensive, I apologize in advance.

It wasn't two People. Two in my first encounter at a train station and tree in my second at my house. But that's not really important.
I don't judge an entire group based on the a few personal experiences. But it leaves a bad first impression. And makes me more receptive for other with the same experiences. Exceptionally if there is no experience to counter that. I'm aware, that only a small part of your group may act that way.
But all i know it's important in your group you save other peoples souls before they die. And it can be interpreted how. It depends on the intelligence, knowledge and mindset what actions are taken. And it's not surprising that preaching is one possible way to do it. And it also not surprising that some of them doing it wrong. So it's understandable and not a surprise why other people had similar experiences.
I did not judge you by the actions of a part of the group. But based on my experience i make assumptions how you may act.
You don't have to apologize for actions of people in an other country on another continent. ( And i don't understand, why you feel the need to do it. )
But you should be aware that you are part of a group who may take unpleasant actions based on the ideas circulating in the group.

Thanks for not being too offended. And, while I am aware that some of the people in my group may make unpleasant actions, I'd say that most groups, regardless of size or purpose, suffer from this. The most offensive people in any group tend to speak loudest, and the loudest are generally heard first. This wasn't anything personal against you, I just felt like saying something on it. Best of luck in your future endeavors and the like.

Sadly it is difficult to make a good joke without running the risk of offending someone, and I was hoping for peoples ability to laugh about oneself. As I wrote in the description, I did not mean to offend anyone. If I did offend you, then I am sorry.
And thank you for your kind compliments about my art style.

Yeah, I get that. I do love a good joke, and I'm all for laughing at oneself. It's just that I've been seeing this sort of joke everywhere lately, and I guess it just sort of gets on my nerves. This wasn't about you personally, just this specific joke in particular. Sorta like when people make jokes about black people and fried chicken. I myself am half black, and my father is black, and we can laugh at those jokes on occassion. But, if people make that same joke over and over, it gets to be frustrating. I just needed to vent a bit about it, is all. Thanks for being nice about it. Again, nothing personal.
