I'm a little confused. I performed all of the steps, however, I can't get the circle in the middle, it comes out as an oval. Am I doing something wrong?

i hav some questions...
how did you make the gradient at the beginning all swirly like that?
and
when i merge the layers i only see one pattern.

Next to the gradient selector thingy at the top left ish part of the screen is a drop down menu to select the mode of the gradient. Use that to choose the mode of your choice to make the coolest pattern. I'm pretty sure I chose difference.
