Description "EasyEight"

The E8 Sherman is a faster, better armored version of the M4 Sherman. It also has an upgraded 76mm gun which has good penetration and an amazing rate of fire. However, despite the increased armor compared to the M4 Sherman, the E8 is still a very soft target and will be easily destroyed if it stays exposed to enemy fire. Run and gun tactics are a must with the E8, as it has enough speed and maneuverability to circle many heavier tanks due to their inferior turret traverses.

After WWII, Japan bought several Easy Eights from the US, but it wasn't long until they started having problems with it.

Montgomery Scott: Aye, sir. The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain !

I don't think any of the "EasyEights" were convereted to Fireflys. They had a better gun, than the original Sherman and were faster. So using that faster speed and better gun, they could get the job done.

If I remember this right, The Firefly was a later model 43 tank with the original cast iron turret of the Early Model Shermans.  The cast Iron turret was used so that the British 17 Pounder gun could be used instead of the ineffective 90mm gun that came with the production model Sherman.  One Firefly was issued to every Sherman tank Battalion to take care of scary tanks like The King Tiger and Tiger Tank.

Yes they issued one Firefly to each tank battalion for long range work.

No not a Firefly, it's a A3E8 or "EasyEight" as the tank crews called them. They had a new wheel setup that gave them wider tracks and better speed and ride. The gun was still a 75mm, but with a bigger punch.

I do have a Firefly, check out the wheels, compared to these [link]
