I've wondered for some time what would happen if Homura decided to fight Gretchen rather than just reset the timeline. Sure, considering her wish, that would be insta-Homulilly if she didn't have a ton of grief seeds, but I can only imagine how the fight would go...

One outcome I thought of was if Homura turned into a witch during the middle of the fight, thus basically fulfilling Homura's wish in a twisted way if one or more of them aren't defeated by another magical girl (which is unlikely if you're referring to Gretchen in the later timelines, and Homulilly is already pretty powerful).

I'm quite sure she'd have been tempted by Gretchen to stay in her heaven without suffering.

It would be a strong temptation for her, to stay with Madoka forever. And it would likely be forever because Gretchen's much stronger even than Walpurgis so probably no magical girl could stop her from drawing the entire planet inside her barrier.

If Homura decided to stay it could be like Rebellion, the only difference would be the witch behind the scenes. Or, worse, Madoka would be corrupted enough as a witch to see salvation in a twisted way and her world could be a different kind of hell. Or, cranking up her little streaks of mischief, would she even abuse Homura...?

If Homura tried to fight she'd inevitably lose. She'd probably turn into a witch herself and joined her labyrinth with her beloved Madoka's - and we're at the Rebellion fake world again. I think there's no way for her to win and even if she did, it wouldn't even count as a victory. It would be just as devastating for her as that earlier timeline when she shot Madoka's soul gem.
