Up here, out in the wilds, one must have a bear gun to survive! We were a very long way from home!

Not yet! Now....I'll probably have to use it on the next backwoods trip, what with all the bear incidents this summer!

There have been more and more the last 3 years.....several right here in town....couple of bad maulings when people surprised them on bikes. I see bear scat sometimes when I walk in the woods over by my place. I live very close to where they like to hang out by a salmon stream! I ALWAYS carry beary spray in my hand!

Absolutely correct! We have taken their land away, where they always foraged for food and played....homes are built all over the mpuntain now. Just read this in the newspaper this morning about an incident that happened only a couple of miles from me: "Police said they shot and killed a black bear and two cubs at a home after the animals broke in last week, and tried again twice on Saturday.
Police said they shot the sow on a back doorstep of the smaller of two houses on the property at about noon Saturday as it was clawing at the door. Officers then shot one cub while it was on the roof and a second while it was on a deck. A third escaped into the woods.
The homeowner said her family members don't leave trash outside and they had lived about 20 years in the home without any bears breaking in. Then in 2006, one of her sons killed a 275-pound black bear that got inside while he and his wife were sleeping. He shot it while the bear was bounding up the stairs toward him.
Last year, a bear broke into her kitchen. This week, it was the sow and three cubs that was wreaking havoc." So even homes aren't always safe, when they claw down the door frame! Yikes! No...thankfully I don't have pictures of them fishing for Salmon....yet. The stream I cross daily on my walks.....will have a Salmon run in it in about 5 weeks, so I will be wearing my "bear bells" and carrying plenty of bear spray!

Trying to catch up a little, Steve! Waaaaaaaay behind as usual. LOL.......the pic was my son's idea. No.......I don't know Sarah Palin personally. A lot of people in Alaska are still VERY unhappy with her quitting the Governer's position, not to mention the fact that she never showed her radical "right wing" side while governer - and now this whole other side comes out. Let's just say....we are not impressed! I won't even get into all the things I disagee with her on. We think her "fame" has gone to her head!

You seem to know more then I do about Sarah. I hope you get to catching up, I just don't get on the comp as much anymore. Maybe that will change, I don't know.

I know, I know....this is sooooooooooooo late! Had terrible times with the carpal tunnel and typing hurts when it's acting up.......Strictly for protection up here, which is bear country! It's a Mossberg and built for bear! This photo was taken a long way from civilization...no EMT's around the corner! Awwww.....yep....people think I'm a sweet person. Thaks for commenting!

I remember I used to have a huge obsession with guns in the old days.. particularly shotguns. Just the kick they pack is incredible.

Well, hey there, Anita! I read your journal/comments, and you don't look anything like 68, girl! I would have guessed no more than 50-something! Nice pic--and I'd not wanna cross anybody holding a gun that big..lol!
And you've got some really nice fractals and photos in your gallery, by the way! I'm faving and running again....

Why thank you for your way cool compliments! I just got the "lucky" genes from my parents! And thanks for the great comment on my art - faving and running is totally fine!
Isn't it ironic - that I just recently posted that particular pic - in light of all the flap here?! Ahhhhh.....I only use it for protection from bears and moose!

Awwwwwww...must be the clean living! Actually...I've been frozen and preserved in Alaska for 43 years! It does help because in the winter (end of Sept - April) we don't see very much of the sun, and even when we do, the sun is so low on the horizon that the rays don't have the damaging effects. Thanks for your sweet compliments!

Absolutely NOT! We just do NOT have the same "mindset" at all! Plus we were not very happy up here at her just quitting! That would be like me saying I wanted to quit being a mom - you just don't do that! Nope, nope....just trying to keep from getting eaten by the bears!!

reminded me of her or how she wanted to be perceived.
To me she is a phony. New it as soon as she opened her
mouth.

You'd be surprised at how many of us here were upset at a govenor resigning halfway through her term! You don't "quit" being a governor - we felt abandoned!

She's looking out for herself.
She sees dollar signs and knows that by saying
incendiary things she will make news.
I don't believe she concerns herself with how her family
is treated or she wouldn't constantly use her children in
her insanity.
As you can tell I don't like this woman.

I think I have more fears of the freeways - than the bears! The wilderness.....is a wonderful way for peace and relaxation - and to clear out one's head.
