Description
Four ingame shots from a work in progress game - Working title "Note guru".Gameboy spec, mostly so I can have quick turnaround getting something in
front of the client; I'll probably have to rework assets with colour down
the line, but for now I think the aesthetic is working anyway.
In western reading order:
1) A nice vegetation shot
2) Some ruins
3) The 'battle' scene
4) How the critters look on the world map
The game is designed to actually teach the player real music skills, while
providing a gameplay experience somewhere between DDR and pokemon.

This is beautiful, I'm amazed by what you can do with such few colors.

I want this game to happen!
I'm not a fan of those old graphics, but the concept is interesting enough to make me excited

Yeah we'll see how the graphics end up, I think we'll probably
have to make them much brighter to help get kids interested
in it, but I'm glad you like the idea

Oh this game is more than interesting, Geti! D:
Great tilesets, cute characters and that design for the battle system...
I'm curious to know more about the gameplay! ^ ^
Glad to see new pixel art works from you ^ ^
And 4GBcolors! Yay! XD For the recolor... maybe option for both styles? But with the change of resolution will be hard.
Hoping to see more soon.

The gameplay basically revolves around moving through the
world on an adventure, then battling the critters in that world
by identifying the notes they make - very simple, but hopefully
fun and a good learning tool at the same time - I'm making sure
I approach it as a game design challenge not a school lesson :^)

At first I thought you enchanted critters with your music, but it's a battle of notes! ^ ^
Well simple and fun for the best XD
Oh Game Design Challenge ^ ^
Is it just a concept or are you using a specific language or program for this game? ^ ^

This is being developed as a html5 game, so javascript is
being used as the programming language. We normally use
something lower level (C++) because it's faster, but the client
on this requires that it's as accessible as possible.

Oh html5! ^ ^
Yep, I know of the C++. We spoke about time ago in KAG. It's my favourite, too!

Thankyou, Geti! Waiting for more art! :3

Oh wow.. this is wonderful! If you re do it with color, you should still keep this as an option. It just has such a classic feel.

I've been as faithful as possible to gameboy restrictions except with
the monster sprites, which are a full 4 colours plus transparency, so
I'm glad it shows through and looks very classic.
If I breath colour into them i may do it using a gameboy colour type
approach - retaining the low colour count but remapping from grey
to some set of colours, which would be fairly trivial to revert back to
grey with - but if i ended up changing the resolution of things,
keeping the old graphics using would probably be impossible.
Either way, glad you like the look as it stands :^)
