Description I have been asked to post a larger image of this, so here it is.

Pencil on paper 22” x 15”

The fourth portrait in a series of five. Like the others (Charles Breed, Larry Butcher and John McCormick), which are in my gallery, I have posted this recently completed drawing of Linda Menger. She was a teacher of mine and a great influence to me as an artist. These drawings are a celebration of some of the most talented, intense artists, an homage to some great teachers.

Well huh, there is my old photography teacher, I googled her name and this popped up I heard she retired last year, I like to think I'm still doing her proud with the photos I'm taking.

I'm a student of Linda's currently and I have never seen her in that light before. It actually took my breath away. Amazing.

Thank you… I have known Linda fro thirty years she is a wonderful teacher and a great person. This was a hard portrait for I sensed a great deal of sadness in her eyes but I need to draw this unmasked. The first time she saw this she went through a bit of β€œortrait shock”, it’s hard to see yourself through someone else’s eyes.

Thanks
Armin

Definately. It is so strange to see Linda like that, we never get to see that intimate side of her. It's an amazing picture.
Your very welcome,
Misty

Thank you for commenting on this drawing, I have drawn lots of older guys, they where excepted and praised. When you draw an older woman you don’t get that, why because our society is so damn backwards.

I don't see why this work doesn't have more favorites, it has to be one of the most realistic pencil portraits I've seen on this site...

Thank you, I think its society biases the adage a male getting older looks more interesting a woman just looks older, I think that sucks.

Yes,. I agree completely. It's the same with the artistic nudes, it's all women in the top fav's and downloads, and whats more, they are all very attractive women. There's nothing wrong with that, except that most of the pics at the top are nothing too inspired, whereas some of the pics that have no attention are more captivating, authentic, or just plain spontaneous and beautiful, but they have no credit because the person in the image isn't a hot female between 18-30yrs old. I suppose theres nothing to be done about it, but nevertheless when I see drawings like this that have more time and skill put into them than 95% of the deviations on here, and they go relatively ignored, it angers me.

I have asked already,
but I have to do it again...

how on earth did you render the texture of the wool jumper...???

I probably know the answer... just pencil skills...

still, I am really curious... must have taken ages... and patience...
LOTS of patience to repeat such a regular pattern...

Great work... all your works should be in a museum...

Outstanding work, a true lesson in perfection and flawless technique...

I know you have been asked this before
but I am really curious, in particular, about the approach
you used to give all that definition and perfectly realistic look
to the wool pattern of the jumper she is wearing with -just- a pencil...
I'm not sure I know what I am asking,
maybe a "work in progress" picture or something like that...
the level of your skills is so high
that if you post this kind of little "tutorials" in your gallery
your pages would become a public service! :-D

Sincere admiration from a fellow artist...

I would never have the patience to put in the amount of detail you have done on the woolen jumper. You did a fantastic job, I particularly like the hair.

It's not only the fact that the detail and realism is so unbelievable, but the fact that you remember the person so well makes it really impressive. This is obviously a person you respected a great deal.

I'm blown away. I usually only browse the wallpaper sections at DA, but your work caught my eye, even as a thumbnail.

I'll never draw this well, but I'll be content with the knowleadge that someone out there can.

You are simply the best artist on DA I have yet seen, I scoured DA in search of a great artist and you are it. words don't explain my thanks for such a great post . the only think I can offer you in return is my best attempt at realism through the use of my pathetic 2B and 4B pencils [link] .
P.S. How many hours (rougly) do you spend on each piece of work? any tips?

I can feel your respect and love for her when I look at this. To me, that one of the most important aspects of art. If not the most. I can feel her strength, inspiration, and intensity through your eyes. Beautiful.

She looks amazing. Just amazing. I feel like I get to know the persons you dfraw, because you draw them so amazingly well. The attention to detail really brings it to life, it's like you silently hush their souls into the drawing through your amazing skill with the pencil. I just get overwhelmed with your portraits. They're angelic.

Whoa! Your work takes my breath away! I thought I was obsessed with detail but the detail you've put into this and your other sketches is unbelievable! Even the ribbing in the sweater is perfect. It makes my head hurt to imagine how much time you must have put into each of your portraits. It takes forever for me to finish a drawing and mine couldn't begin to compare. If I knew how to do those little emoticons I would put the one bowing down to you because I certainly know a master when I see one. Amazing!

I can`t really comprehend the amount of time, blood, sweat and tears captured in this image. This picture is so lifelike that I can`t really tell that it`s drawn at all. Well, enough with that rambling.. I like the details, and the way the shadows are drawn really black. The hair is great, it flows perfectly and the way small induvidual hair-strands curl outwards is amazing.

Yours is not just another amazing sketch. It is a lesson in the depth to which fine sketch work can be achieved if one has studied hard and had wonderful teachers as you have had. Every detail in you sketches go beyond the exceptional...from the bags under her eyes to the fine-lined wrinkles that are almost imperceptible...from the detailed glassy look to her eyes to the wispy fall of her hair...from the decisive and intricate discourse employed in her sweater to the fine influence of her necklace. I am quite jealous of the very wonderful teachers who gave a part of themselves to you and so enriched your life...and by doing so, have enriched ours. Thank you Armin!
