Description Monolithic update

Pencil on Illustration Board

Full drawing 30” x 40” this image 7” x 7”

This is the fourth element in this drawing, The seconded being my step fathers eye and the sky and bulb being the first.

This is drawing of my father’s eye, artist, creator, destroyer, blue collar philosopher an eye of a romantic living a charmed life. Coming upon eighty years of age, has he attained the dreams, reached goals set so long ago? Or avoided success. This symbol speaks of grand accomplishments and painful losses, but where hope never diminishes.

(on the morning of 9/10/11 at 7:40 my father Fritz Mersmann passed away quietly and peacefully. He was my hero in so many ways, my greatest teacher in art, my inspiration in life. He was truly a beautiful soul……………Gods Speed Papa, I love you.)

Thanks for looking

Some people get snooty and say photo-realistic drawings aren't art. What they fail to realize is that most photographs are just images recorded on chemically coated paper. Photography turns into art when the practioner transcends the mechanics of the medium and produces something that exudes meaning. This photo-real drawing achieves what many photographers do not. It captures more than the light bouncing off an object and onto somebody's retina. It tells a story.

Well said. If you read some of Nimra's journal's he actively defends that "..aren't art." claim. Kudos for making a note of it.

Armin: Keep up the outstanding work, I'm sure your father will love/loves this piece.

Fantastic work. I have no doubts that the original work is amazing when viewed in person. I love the reflection and glints in the eye... very amazing. I always look forward to seeing new works from you... you're such an unbelievable artist (for lack of a more personal word).

how are you able to keep your palms off of the paper on such a large surface?

You're unbelievable. The amount of detail in all of your art is overwhelming. I can't imagine ever being able to draw this well.
