Full drawing 30” x 40” this image 7” x 7”
This is the Second element in this drawing, the sky and bulb being the first.
This is a drawing of my step-fathers eye. An eye that’s seventy-eight years old, an eye akin to hammered gold. An eye that’s experienced prisoner of war camps and the death of many comrades. It’s been witness to beating cancer once and now in the dusk of his years to lung cancer. This symbol speaks of strength and vulnerability; it alludes to the end of one journey and the beginning of another.
(On December 5, 2005 my dear step-dad died in my arms, I will miss him so very much, Gods Speed to you Dad, and all my love always). Armin Mersmann

incredibly detailed pice.... I've fascinated with how you got the eye to look so wet... It makes my eyes water just to look at it. And the eyebrow hairs! OMGosh! I absolutely cannot wait to see the finished product.
I'm also very interrested with your drawing techniques. Most people draw a little bit here and a little bit there when starting off. Or at least I do anywho... But you concentrate all your efforts into one specific spot and work completely on that before moving on to the next area..

there seems to be a barrier i just can't cross in terms of pushing the envelope and getting those really rich darks.

this is the first time i'm able to actually see a certain structure within one of your drawings. i mean the canvas surface, hehe
before it was always like a grainy photograph !

If your reacting to the white dots or spots they are not the paper nor canvas, they are drawn in for hair follicle pores that no longer have hair in them, the paper I am using has no texture that you can see its glass smooth. Thank you

This is only a very small part of the whole drawing. Although what you see of this face is all that will be in the picture plane there are five more major elements that will be part of the composition, it took around 20 hours for the “eye” thank you
