Description
StrippedGraphite on Illustration board
Final drawing will be 30” x 40” this is 8” x 8”
As far as the single elements this is the last major one, (two eyes, roots, crow and skulls) now it’s time to put it all together. Symbolically; the first eye is accusatory, it holds blame and makes the viewer part of the narrative. This eye looks into the past and the future, yet there is an apathetical aspect to its gaze, in the final version this should make more sense.
Thanks for the great comments and questions so far!

I have a question on your technique:
As a student, I'm working towards photorealism, and I was wondering how you achieve the highlights, most especially in the individual hairs. Do you use a white pencil/conte, eraser, or just leave it blank?
Thank you! Your work is incredibly inspiring!

I leave it the color of the paper, erasing out only works in larger areas it messes up the texture of the paper and stands out like a sore thumb, white pencils, or paint look out of place and unreal. It just takes planning, good luck

its phenominal the amount of detail you manage to get into your drawings, the iris looks amazing and has a glossy wet appearance that happens naturally around the eye, genuinely in my opinion your drawings are some of the best graphite works i have ever seen.

I feel like anything I say would be a gross understatement. All I know is that I wish I could capture what you can capture.

Truly amazing.. I especially like how you've drawn the iris.. it looks so real. I can see how lagunadreams mistook this for a photograph in the first comment.
Can't wait to see the full product.

Great work as usual. Where do you find all of your great reference photots? or do you use a mirror and draw from life?

I can't wait to see all the elements put together. I know it's going to look great.
I finally understand what you meant when you said "It takes however long it takes." I'm working on a portrait right now, and I decided to spend a lot more time on it working on the detail of everything. I know I'm going to feel a lot more satisfied with the finished product. Thanks.

absolutely fantastic, as always; your eyes are, to a layman like me, the most impressive part of your work. i'd love to see a step-by-step as to how you did them

Hmmm..the pores...we've missinterpreted the words art and artists in the today laife...so i just don't like calling my-self or anybody but mother nature an artist.but if i was to ever call someone an artist for their drawings. it would be you Armin Mersmann. congrats.
