Description
The new title is “The Waking Edge”Graphite on Illustration Board 39” x 31”
This work is of the precise point when conscience is awakened, the experience of sudden reality. It happens when we first wake and it happens suddenly, unexpectedly in life’s journey. Nothing here is precise to anyone except to myself. It’s personal in its symbolism yet there are universal symbols as well. The background is drawn more for the “feel” it gives the overall drawing, industrial, decomposing almost contradictory to what Jessica looks like yet her sudden frozen stare brings a different reality to the work one of angst. Symbols such as a metal halo, the meeting of circles forming a vesica, bones, stones and even her attire are important icons in this story. Yet to explain these would gives too much away. Since it’s a teaching forum I tell much more then I feel comfortable with, but it gives an indication to my process, the only true hint would normally be the title, “The Waking Edge”
Like much of my work there’re are people who I connect with; it opens up their imaginations by adding their personal insights, yet some will see nothing but the negative and transpose every clue. As always, what the viewer sees in this work is the truth for that individual and I find that much more interesting in the long run.

What I find appealing here is that you managed to keep overall consistency with the clothing and hair of the figure in compliment to the wall behind her, making for a dynamite picture.

Hate to be possibly the seventy-eight-thousandth person to say this, but that drawing is ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING!!!
My friend is now aiming for your talent, and though she doesn't draw realism frequently, she'll get there!!
If dA pageviews are anything to go by, then she's exactly half way there!!!

this is absolutely beautiful! I like how the necklace looks like its floating off of her skin slightly ... as if she is almost stuck lingering in the past Unconsciousness because of the shock of reality, but reality seems to almost be gently nudging her forward ... beautiful

I think you understand german?
Das Bild ist einfach wahnsinn... was mich am meisten beindruckt ist nicht das Gesicht und sein Ausdruck sondern, mehr wie fehlerfrei die Textur von ihrem Pullover ist!
Ganz ehrlich: Man könnte sagen deine Bilder seien Fotos!

Sometimes if the poses is very involved.
I did use a kind of grid in the very early stages to get the main features down they are small hash marks, a full grid just gets in the way.

I’m not sure of he question, presumably about the camera stats, I used a digital camera to photograph the drawing to get it on line. It’s way to big for a scanner. Is that what your asking about?

It's not "like a photograph" and it also doesn't look like a pencil drawing. It has a whole other life in it, and I suppose that is a part of yours. You've given a lot of time and effort into creating this, I can tell. The story and tones and I suppose the overall background behind this just makes it even more awing and inspiring. What really catches me is the hair along her part and the very beautiful way you captured the reference's eyes.
The background and sweater (oh my gosh) seemed to have taken ages. I love how I can see the silkiness of the material in this drawing. The lighting on the beads has been carried out exceptionally. Her nose, and the shadows on the left side of her face are SO gorgeous and accentuating.
I do wish I could say more things about how much I love this drawing but words don't really cover how much I enjoy this piece ^^ I hope you're really proud of this.

Laura what you said was very complementary, I do strive for extreme realism yet is strive to do it in a non photographic manner. What that means I don’t quite know except i stive fot the truest personal vision that I can give the subject matter. Your words mean a lot thank you.
