Description The new title is “The Waking Edge”

Graphite on Illustration Board 39” x 31”

This work is of the precise point when conscience is awakened, the experience of sudden reality. It happens when we first wake and it happens suddenly, unexpectedly in life’s journey. Nothing here is precise to anyone except to myself. It’s personal in its symbolism yet there are universal symbols as well. The background is drawn more for the “feel” it gives the overall drawing, industrial, decomposing almost contradictory to what Jessica looks like yet her sudden frozen stare brings a different reality to the work one of angst. Symbols such as a metal halo, the meeting of circles forming a vesica, bones, stones and even her attire are important icons in this story. Yet to explain these would gives too much away. Since it’s a teaching forum I tell much more then I feel comfortable with, but it gives an indication to my process, the only true hint would normally be the title, “The Waking Edge”

Like much of my work there’re are people who I connect with; it opens up their imaginations by adding their personal insights, yet some will see nothing but the negative and transpose every clue. As always, what the viewer sees in this work is the truth for that individual and I find that much more interesting in the long run.

your work is inspiring, I'm happy to say that I found art late in life and took it up to try and find a way to express my poetry.

I love what you can do and I love the work of so many others. I came across your work by accident but I shall watch, learn and be inspired.

Since discovering art and going back to studying art there are not enough hours in the day but thank for for being a place to sit and enjoy, its like finding a sacred place when you go for a walk in the country, beautiful

Hi, Kathleen here from the CMU art gallery!

I gotta say I spent about a month seeing this piece every single day, not to mention a slew of his other pieces and they are even more amazing in person.

Congrats on the DD!

Hooray!

I twisted the right arms to get you a DD

not that it took much twisting...but this is my comment in Sandras "Best of the Best Trad" journal.

As myself an artist focused on making portraits of women, in a realist style, I found this a very very strong example of what you can do if you put as much thought, time and skill into work as it needs.

so yeah that did the trick it seems Congratulations.

This is absolutely astounding. After reading your description and looking through your gallery as well as your website, I still cannot believe that this is not a reworked photograph. By no means am I trying to insult you, this is just...unbelievable.

The sweater, the hair, even the background...it's just difficult to accept that this is all done in traditional media. I've studied art, art theory and art history, known many skilled artists and am familiar with a lot of amazing work, but I still cannot totally convince myself that this is all graphite. I am genuinely amazed.

Thanks Collin ill take that as a complement if you could see the original there would be no doubt. In person the individual mark makings is apparent, I never try to fool the eye to that extent for I love the look of pencil marks on paper but reproduced they are quite tight.
