Description
9” x 6”Fifty-four Trips Around the Sun
This is the smallest portrait drawing I have ever done; it’s the size of a hand. Most of my work is huge (four to five foot) I had to really draw in a different manner which took time to get used to. What fascinated me was the hand, I was pinching a black cloth with my thumb and forefinger giving it an almost arthritic look and the bald head was great to draw and l liked the look, but my wife hated it so now I have long hair again.
Here is the size example

1300 hours for the bigger drawing... I understand a few more things now (especially the level of details and how to achieve such accuracy). It's almost... three months (if I consider drawing 12-16 hours a day)?!

This to me adds another dimension to the [bigger] drawing. I hence suppose you sometimes work on more than one drawing at a time, right? The depth (or should I say «strength») of each drawing is up to the energy and time you've spent in every parcel of it. This is at least what I understand beyond the drawing.

Absolutely superb hair work, it's so difficult to create the illusion of dark lighting like this, requires first-class pencil skills and a mad-keen eye.

Love this! I am very overdue to create another self portrait and this inspires me to do so in the near future. My birthday is sneaking up on me quickly, that may be the deadline I need to give myself.
I am always impressed of your balance between creativity, compostion and technique. It's what I hope to eventually achieve in my own work.
Thank you as always for sharing you work with the DA community- Mike
