Description
"Lell" & "Illishar" from the "Firebringer Trilogy" by Meredith Ann Pierce. These two are my very favorite in the series.A little doodle I thought I'd share that I did this week. It, unfortunately, proves that I have little understanding of wings, etc. but I bring this up because this is one of my goals for this year...to learn more. So here is an example of what I can do now...bleh. We'll see if I can improve by next January.
Because this was a sketch and I sketch in pen (not just pen, but sharpie marker), you can see all of my lines.
Will be off to scraps in a bit.

You, you....Why have I not seen this? It's beautiful.
I adored their relationship in those books, it was really lovely. Illishar was one of my favourite characters, but Tek or Jan probably take the top spot.
I love how their tails curl together, what a sweet touch. And Penners made the horn looooong. Unicorns must have long horns, unlike those stubby things some people draw them with.

This looked like the old ink plate illustrations in the thumb. While the effect isn't quite the same in the bigger version, the detail remains remarkable.
I think I like the griffin's face the best (and his beautiful mane of feathers), but so too do I like the unicorn.
I'm feeling a mixture of admiration and jealousy

How lovely! It looks like a classic engraving from an antique storybook. Gryphons and unicorns being traditional heraldry devices, it only makes sense.

Yeah, they're out-of-print so it can be difficult to find. I got my copies from third-party dealers on Amazon. They were just as fast and really affordable. And you can always check them out from a library too.

Actually... I don't think they're out of print. I think they just came out with a new round of 'style' covers, you know how marketers do that? (It's like how Disney movies like Lady and the Tramp are discontinued and then they come out with Lady and the Tramp Platinum Edition years later.) But I like amazon better. I'm definitely going to be ordering from there.
