Description
...what I always wanted to do when mom and dad were sleeping...hop on my luck dragon and take off!I just saw this image in my mind the other day, two kids riding a dragon through space (that it was also spewing from its nostrils) and then last night I figured I would challenge myself to create something with a "storybook" feel to it. And yes, to even try my hand at color.
Sharpie markers (they're baaacccck) and colored pencils (about six, because that's all that I had around the house...hence why there is not a lot of "color theory" going on here...but I'm okay with that because I think it simplifies it.)

This is really cute. It really looks like a kid's storybook illustration.

ohh... very cute
it reminds me of the one scene in "peter pan"
the colors are a bit pale for my opinion (maybe it's the scanner's fault?)

Concerning colors... as Unix people say: "less is more" . Nice one. Has a Puff character to it ^.=.^

Beautiful. You definitely got the storybook feel to it. You should write a poem or something to go with it.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with this picture.

Actually, this is the cover page for the book which I wanted to have out by Christmas but there's no way I'll make it in time, so probably spring...you can see some of the others in the storybook folder in my gallery.

Okay the colouring on this is very cool and I love the expression of the kids on its back. I think this will make a great kids book if it all goes through *crosses finger*

Well, I'm debating sending it to someone, or just doing a print myself. My old stand-by publisher is interested, but that doesn't say much because they'll look at almost anything I do. Either way, I've already been doing page layouts so we'll see.

Very cool and impressive I'm excited to see this when it's done This may sound a little dumb but is it hard to do page layouts? I've never done them so I don't know. As for publishing would it be easier if you did it yourself? I know nothing of publishing either. Hey maybe the stand-by publisher just reognizes you greatsness?

Ummm, not really, I guess. Printers will tell you your margins and bleeds and such and then you just set it up so that it works. If I screw it up, and I usually do, they just bitch at me and fix it anyway.

Awww welll that does sound very professional of them. They must realize not everyone is as experienced as they are with working with printing. Hopefully you get it right, right off the bat to avoid the chastizing they might give you. Hope the book is going well though

I agree, the simplicity is what makes this piece work. I love it when serendipity takes over!
I would love to hop on a dragon too. I love dragon stories, and I've had dreams of flying on a dragon - I wonder what that symbolizes (if anything)?

Maybe it symbolizes watching the Neverending Story too often as a kid?
Thank you for your comment. I do think that it being simple really helps it, but it was a huge stretch for me. I literally had to sit on my hands for a while to prevent myself from drawing in every single scale.

Thanks! Me too because, honestly, I don't think I'd know what to do with more than that. I am not....a colorful person. Maybe personality wise but give me a box of 100 prismacolors and I go into color theory coma.

XD Color theory is so far beyond my comprehension. It's really the big thing that kept me back from my brief forays into pixel art.

I tried watercolors two nights ago and ...I think I tore a hole in the universe with the horror of it. I probably inadvertently killed off an entire race of friendly talking carrots.

you don't think the idea of a giant sentient carrot with two beady black eyes hopping around a hapless earthling's backyard is funny?

They're kind of an OC for me. The past few months or so I've been doodling angry sentient mutant carrots on my notes. Depends on my mood, for a while it was evil cupcakes, pumpkins, etc.
