Phantastic job and a perfect lighting! A german VIIC on periscope-depth. One for my U-Boat collection!

You did a good job on the light rays, maybe a little caustic light dancing on the hull with reflected caustics below (just my opinion), but a great image nonetheless.

Aww thanks - yeah I have learned so much since that time...perhaps I might try another scene similar to this - god awful slow renders though

Depends on where in the ocean you are and the silt content - rendered this from 13½ years experience in the US Navy onboard submarines - thanks anyway though.

That is fine - the boulders in the background (which is the furthest that you can see in this scene) are only 20 meters beyond the sub - and that is as far as you can see - so that is not what I would call perfectly clear

I also think the fish are a bit odd, but the sub is wonderful and the light works very well -- a spooky feel.

Thank you very very much - glad you like it - yeah I added in the fish because it looked a little too "lifeless" and after being on submarines for years in the Navy - one thing you learn is the ocean abounds with life

Well, either way it is great.
Did you learn to model in the Navy?
I've been doing a little myself, and I love subs, too. The best I've managed is something that looks like The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine."
It strikes me that 3-D art really requires thinking differently than other mediums.

No - didnt learn to model in the Navy - and this sub is not my model - but a purchased one - I use AC3D & lightwave for modeling - you may want to check out AC3D - a wonderfully versatile and inexpensive little program
Thank you also for the wonderful comments and I am glad you like this

ahh, well it's great anyway. I'm on Linux, so I've been using Blender. I don't really know what else is available for my platform -- I certainly can't afford Maya.

I believe AC3D may support Linux [link] and on this page: [link] at the bottom it says Linux x86 OS. It's a great little program and people in the forums are always writing nice little scripts and new features are always available.

hehe - oh I remember using poser a lot - does tend to be slow in the renderin department - ESPECIALLY if there are reflections or glass
You use Poser 7?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Emilyahedrick In reply to 2753Productions [2007-11-16 04:34:38 +0000 UTC]
yeah, poser 7, but i never render in it, I use vue 6 infinite to render in only set up the figure in poser 7 and bring into vue

Ahhh - okay - yeah the render engine in vue is much more powerful - though Poser can render soft shadows and marbles BEAUTIFULLY
