Is that Winston's proton-pistol from the IDW comics I see? If so then awesome taste!

Brill pic, especially in light of the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife!

Kinda.  Good eye!  I did reference it, but I did make some minor changes.  Ultimately, I love pistols and wanted to go for the shield/trap combo that Kylie was known for, with that '84 style.

And yes, I love that trailer!  Seeing the Ecto 1 rocking again made me so excited!

Thanks for the compliment! - so this is your interpretation of a Kylie-esque rig but in the movie/comics style? Neat!

For what it's worth, without a standard proton gun on the pack, you might have enough surplus power in the pack to be able to have her dual-weilding a twin set of pistols, or incorporate something like Ron Alexander's over-the-shoulder Boson Caster - the pistols for precision work and the Caster for when some heavy hitting is required!

In that blue flightsuit she even looks like she's associated with the Rookie's Chicago team - and look out now, because I'm nerding hard and accelerating towards the event horizon!

Ditto on getting really excited thanks to the trailer. Rediscovering the equipment with the kids, seeing some new toys (the gunner seat!), watching the Ecto 1 drifting through the corn-fields, and little teases like the Shandor Mining Company (what have you been up to Ivo?) really have me excited for what this could do for the franchise and lore.

My one hope is that the community doesn't experience a repeat of the sheer toxicity we saw back in 2016. I'll own that Answer The Call wasn't perfect, but it was still a fun movie and did not deserve the sheer poison that was sent its way. And without it we might not have the 2020 movie to look forward to.

Basically, yeah.  I was hoping for an '84 Kylie.  Belle's a small sized character and I didn't want to give her heavy weaponry.  Dual pistols is something I thought about, but truthfully, I wanted to lean more to Kylie and not Holtzmann.  The only major difference I can see between Belle's setup and Kylie's is that Kylie had a much small (practically no-existent if I remember) proton pack, whereas Belle is wearing the original '84 one.

The suit, is rather boringly from Ghostbusters II.  You see, this image was part of a competition, where people had to draw their OCs as Ghostbusters.  One of the few stipulations of the contest was that the jumpsuit had to be from either Ghostbusters or Ghostbusters II.  I went for the navy just because it compliments Belle better (and I naturally lean towards blue).  Here's a link to the contest (the artist drew his favourite entries - Belle appears about a third along).  Ghostbusters Lineup - 22

After digesting it for a bit, I'm honestly kinda conflicted about the trailer for Afterlife.  There's stuff I love, and stuff I'm questioning.  I am feeling the absence of New York City, I have to admit.  Although correct me if I'm mistaken, but I actually think part of the trailer takes place inside the Firehouse, they just tried to hide it.  We see one of the kids go down a fire pole and then find all the old stuff.  It actually looks like the same room where Egon tested Tully.  And as someone else pointed out to me, there's actually not that many jokes in the trailer, which the first was famed for.  I'm cautiously optimistic.  I love what I've seen from the new main cast so far.

I don't have a positive opinion of the 2016 film.  It's very clear they just tried to repeat the '84 film with a new cast, but they didn't really land it for me.  Every character was trying to be the comedic relief and they were all improvising.  The original cast worked well because they were all so different, and I believe Bill Murray was the only one who was improvising his lines.  It feels immature and ill conceived.  Not the worst film in the world, but definitely the worst Ghostbusters film.  At least Afterlife is completely different and therefore can't really be compared to the '84 film.  The 2016 film, people literally did shot-by-shot comparisons.  Afterlife is a new beast, and I'm eager to see what it does.  Truthfully, I hope this sparks a huge franchise as much as Sony does.

I always wondered about Kylie's pack, and eventually (after going full nerd) decided it wasn't a pack at all, but instead housed one or two of those "proton cannisters" that became core to the EGB technology system. It would effectively only work so long as the cannisters held a charge, and when they ran out Kylie would swap it out for a spare cannister from one of the boys' packs (each of the big packs had a sort of storage chamber on the back with some of the cannisters in them, presumably working as an accumulator system storing excess power that the packs put out in idle mode, that could then be discharged in combat to enrich the stream put out by the actual cyclotron).

If you ever do another of these pictures and want something closer to Kylie's 'rig' but in the 84 style, the comics introduced what's known as the 'compact pack', which has effectively become Janine's signature weapon. The pack is usually paired with a set of wrist-mounted throwers, but you could instead replace those with the proton-pistol you've given Belle here. The compact even resembles Kylie's whopping-big EGB trap when worn: ghostbusters.fandom.com/wiki/C…

Regarding the Afterlife trailer, I can appreciate being nervous (I'm feeling much the same way). NYC is usually as much a part of GB as the characters themselves, so taking that away from the formula is already risky, but I'd rather see this new interpretation be bold and try something different than feel beholden to keep repeating the same beats. The fire-pole seen in the trailer seems to lead into a labratory underneath the farm, and a lot of people are now wondering if Egon came out here (bringing the Ecto-1 and GB equipment) following a lead of some kind that got him killed. The fact that the trailer shows us the entrance to the "Shandor Mining Company" definately suggests that, implying a link with Ivo Shandor, the mad architect and Gozer-worshipper who built Dana's apartment building on Central Park West.

The big question I'm asking is that, if these new characters are Egon's grandchildren via an estranged daughter, who's the grandmother? My first guess was that it was Janine, but the general consensus now seems to be that Egon sired a daughter BEFORE the events of the first film, based on the apparent ages of the children and the age of actress Carrie Coon, who plays Egon's apparent child (38 years old, born 1981) - people are now speculating that he was in a relationship of some kind before he joined the Paranormal Studies Department at Columbia University. Regardless, given that we know Janine is going to appear in the film (along with Ray, Peter, Winston and Dana), I'm hoping for a lot of fresh lore and some heart-moving character moments. As for the humour, I think the trailer is intentionally holding the jokes in reserve (as well as deliberately keeping the broader plot hidden). Only time will tell.

And yeah, what dragged 2016 down was way too much improv, and some really questionable choices in the editing room. Have you seen the deleted scenes - there's entire emotional character-driven subplots that were completely excised from the film. The final release effectively cut the heart of the story out in favour of more dragged out "walla-walla" scenes where the characters just talked over one another, apparently as a result of the test screenings. Maybe I tend to regard it more positively because I see in my head the film it 'might' have been instead of what it became.

But none of this detracts from the awesomeness of your picture! Belle definately wears the navy well (as you say) and she looks absolutely adorable in a 'cute badass' way, both in this pic and the frankly AWESOME piece produced at the end of the competition - congrats on Belle getting into the winning lineup btw.

I'm a huge nerd and frankly, I haven't had a chance to vent about Ghostbusters stuff, so I'm aware this random comment has gone on way too long, but let me touch on the basics.  XD

I went back and watched the trailer, and yes, it does seem like that area of old Ghostbusting stuff is underneath the farm.  Again though, it does look very close to the Firehouse and I wondered if they were trying to misdirect us.  I know I personally would love to see the old Hook & Ladder Company 8 again.  That's genuinely my favourite building ever.  I have a Funko Pop of it (as well as all the original Ghostbusters and Ecto 1.).

Yeah, I'd questioned the ages of the kids too.  I thought having them be Egon's kids made more sense considering the ages.  But he'd have been like late 40s early 50s to father them for this age, I think?  Having a daughter prior to the film does make more sense.  I also can't help but wonder if we know the father, as that seemed like an unusual tease for a trailer.    I sincerely hope the original cast are more than just a cameo.  I'd like some genuine scenes with them.  I appreciate we're not going to get a full movie, but at least a chunk of it, you know?

Again, cautiously optimistic.

I've seen a lot of people and journalists direct hate at Afterlife because it retcons 2016, which is ironic seeing as 2016 tried to retcon '84.  There was very little I liked about 2016.  Knowing the behind the scenes stuff as well is quite upsetting.  The fact they actually booted Ivan Reitman to make it for example.  I just wish it didn't happen.  I hope Afterlife is a step in the right direction, and I'm sure it will be.  Even if it's not a comedy at all, it looks like it's respectful of the original franchise.  So long as it's good and inspires a new generation of 'Busters', I'm all for it.  The 2016 film felt like a lazy comedy.

And thank you!  I'm really glad you liked it.  And I'm glad we got to chat.  Allowed me to vent some of my Ghostbusters thoughts, haha.

Not a problem at all 2B - I know full well how nuts it is to love something and not be able to discuss it with people. I've got a new friend who, until we met, had never been able to discuss 'Steven Universe' with anyone, and being able to talk about it meant a lot to him. If you do want to chat further, feel free to message me about it

The father of the children is a bit of a mystery, but if the kids have the surname Spengler (as is implied by Trevor's line that the farmhouse is the only thing "left in our name" and the shot where Phoebe folds back Egon's old flightsuit to reveal the Spengler namepatch) then it could go a few ways:

A: Egon had a son, and Trevor and Phoebe are that son's kids via Callie, who took the name Spengler at marriage. That son is now out of the picture and presumably dead, since Egon's property is now passing to his daughter-in-law and grandkids.

or

B: Callie is Egon's daughter by marriage, ergo her name since birth is Callie Spengler, which would make it only natural for her to inherit Egon's estate. The kids might have a surname other than Spengler (from their father), but if they are Trevor and Pheobe Spengler, then Callie was presumably in a long-term relationship with their father but for whatever reason that relationship never developed into a marriage and was eventually broke off. It's also possible that Trevor and Pheobe are half-siblings and have different fathers, but that feels a bit too complex.

Right now my gut is leaning towards 'B', because what little dialogue we've got coidfying these characters relationship to Egon suggests that Callie knew him closer than she would an in-law. The fact that these three individuals are picking up the pieces of Egon's life further reinforces the implication of a direct familial connection.

As a final bit of trivia, one fan got a decent screencap of the eviction notice which clairfies that the family prior to eviction lived in Chicago.

Summerville is a fictional town, but studying the layout of the highways on the map seen in the trailer puts it in NW Oklahoma, right where the town of Woodward is in reality.

I do think that the shift in location might be a positive thing, a literal breath of fresh air, because damn is there something liberating about seeing the Ecto-1 drifting through the corn-fields

Anyway, I've leave it there for now - and while our thoughts may differ slightly on Answer The Call, it's really awesome to be able to discuss this civilly and enthusiastically, without any of the caustic hatred that sadly seems to be the norm when it comes to many fandoms. Like I said, drop me a note if you want to chat more.

Until then, keep being awesome - since discovering your gallery a few days ago I've really enjoyed exploring your works and the narrative universe you've created around them

PS: There's a slightly different international cut of the trailer out online - the alternate material it incorporates has a dry, intelligent level of humour in keeping with the original films: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq7x-q…

it's a reference to the ghostbusters movie which has a song that has become so linked that when you mention one the other also comes to mind, in the song there is the repetition of the line "i ain't afraid of no ghost" so the title is making a joke using that line
