Metal Slug!2D Forever
This picture spurred from a quick sketch on my tablet , and so I decided to draw it out properly by hand, and go through the usual scanning process.
For those Metal Slug fans, it is indeed Marco Rossi, with his shapely, characterful face. I've always loved the care and attention that went into the Metal Slug games (ignoring the poor effort on Metal Slug 4) and wanted to pay my respect towards those great games.
I have to admit I really like the colouring on this one, especially his skin tones. Typically I make everything highly desaturated, so I went for bold this time.
My only gripe being the background... but I never like backgrounds.

Man, there was an arcade I would go to back in '99 and 2000, and they had the coolest damn Metal Slug X arcade machine set-up I have ever seen.
I've even looked online to see if anyone else had one like it, but I think it was custom since I haven't been able to. Or just really rare. I really don't know. It bugs me that I can't even share with anyone a picture of how badass the thing was.

Anyways, the thing was huge. The screen was pretty damn big, had a big steel platform (if you're familiar with the steel steps used in pro wrestling, it was like that style but flat) and it had the style where it was played by shooting arcade gun controllers.
I fuckin' loved that thing. When it was gone when I went back one day, I legit damn near wept for its absence. :<

I always preferred the character art from 1-3. the really goofy elongated faces made them alot more interesting and rugged compared to the SUPER DUPER ANIME stuff that they tried to do later.

Agreed 100%. I really don't know why they changed after MS3... maybe the artist left. After MS3 everything was basically recycled from earlier games and lost all of the charm. Oh well, the first three (and X) are the best anyway!

Yeah, I wasted a lot of cash on Metal Slug as well.. worth it though!
And yes, the background came out alright, especially as it was an afterthought...
