Description I know there are those who are critical of the Musical version of Cosette:

"She's such an airhead." "Omg I know right?"
"Dude, why is Eponine always hotter?" "Because she has a personality, Bro."

With all of the characters in Les Mis it's inevitable that any adaptation would focus on some more than others and I totally get that.

For fans of Cosette, here's a render of how she was meant to be: beautiful with chestnut brown hair, well-educated, passionate and afraid of little (little wonder that, she gets it from her father ).

Modeled in Daz 4.5, rendered in Reality 2.5 and LuxRender 1.0.

Cosette and Les Miserables are property of their respective owners, this art is mine.

Eeeee, she's very nice! I really liked the work you did here! Cosette is such a misunderstood character, it's even funny. Since many people can relate to Γ‰ponine's broken heart, I guess other bunch can happily relate to Cosette's new found love... but she seems less popular anyway. Seems that drama is heavier than hope, in this case; and I guess people falls in the side of the poor one: the street girl who had it all and can't touch a better life vs. the poor little child who grew into a beautiful lady who has it easy now. I believe they just forget about Cosette's sad past due to her 'present' look, and I think many people has been in that ''inferior'' side of thinking they can't be loved because they are poorer/look uglier that someone else approaching their love interest (the 'kill the rich bitch, she may have someone else' thingie). Also, I guess Γ‰ponine's ending also helps to build this tragic myth, and Cosette, who remains alive and loved, is... well... kind of hated due to things like that. She always seemed more than that in the novels, yet I guess it's not enough stage time to develop her better, she ends singing about love and no one tells her the truth, so her character can't make a meaningful approach to many subjects more. She is the naive and is loved to the point people don't want to stain her with an ugly truth. In the other hand, Γ‰ponine was forced to learn how life is too early.

But I like both of them, so this is just some words about it I'd hope Cosette haters get that she had it hard in some other ways, yet I guess that's not so popular if you take the musical version alone. Also, Cosette does not have such an iconic solo song like On My Own. I guess it happens ): Other people chose Γ‰ponine's solo to sing in some other BG than Les Mis, therefore the song became better known.

Thank you so much, katsumii

Sorry for the late reply; it was the last day before the Christmas break at both places I work (college and a government office) and everyone was playing catch-up before the holidays.

You're absolutely right about Cosette and Eponine. Because of her fall, Ponnie becomes more relatable; and while Cosette's early life was tragic she later has it all and that's what makes people hate her. And while it may have been a creative decision not to give her an iconic song, there's no getting away from the fact that Les Mis, like the source material, is male centric, which is a reflection of its time.

Thank you so much for the links and sorry to take so long to get back to you

Now that there's a new plug-in for generating hair that can be styled, the hair links should be especially useful

Happy Holidays, hon

I fear poor Cosette is condemned to be disliked by a lot of people because they're empathizing a lot with Eponine xD Plus well in the book you do get to know her a little more but in the musical she's mainly singing about love so yeah she ends up being perceived as kind of bland. It's a shame because she's really sweet and generous and confident though I always feel a little sorry for her in the book because apparently she's plagued to live with people who NEVER tell her about ANYTHING plot-relevant xD I mean between Valjean-and-his-false-identities and Marius "Oh no your dad is like, traveling, that's why he's not coming these days"

That's true.

The characters are a product of a time when women where considered the "Weaker/Fairer Sex" and had to be protected. Thank God things have changed! I'm hoping she'll be better depicted in the movie because Amanda Seyfried is a gifted actress; "Letters to Juliet" may have been pretty fluffy but I feel she brought a lot to the role

Yeah, I hope XD Especially since it looks like they picked some elements from the book to put back into the show, I'm damn curious to see how the characters will be portrayed ! Too bad the film doesn't come until FEBRUARY here XD

Ack!

I think that means that Europe isn't a hub for piracy (production, that is). Over here in SE Asia release dates have been moved up to coincide with the US/worldwide ones (and in some cases even earlier) as an attempt to combat piracy.

Not sure if it's working though

Oh don't worry, we do have piracy, gee, we even have a law here which threatens to cut the internet of people who download pirated stuff too much. Not that it really stops anyone because the main reason why people are illegally downloading stuff is to avoid paying (because the price of cultural stuff can get pretty damn high )
Though at least even if it doesn't work as intended you get nice side effects from it XD I wish they picked at least January but nooooo gotta wait february. It's pretty okay though, good thing I'm not too annoyed with "spoilers" about the changes and stuff or else January would be Hell xD

I know the Cosette haters too - my dad is one... He's seen Les Mis with me a couple of times, and he keeps talking about how Marius should choose Γ‰ponine and how Cosette is boring... But your vision of her is beautiful!

Me too Getting Ponnie's hair and cap to work together is the sticking point

When my wife and I started dating one of our first dates was a local staging of Les Mis (the first musical we saw together was Once on This Island, she's the queen of all things musical ) and while she had seen Les Mis previously it was my first time. Since this was in the mid/late 80s it was before you were born

I was totally blown away by it all, but most especially One Day More. I've been a fan of the quodlibet as a dramtatic device ever since I saw it in the movie version of West Side Story way back in the last century

You're very welcome

It was our first real date as a couple; we met on a blind date and had pizza and Eggplant Parmigiana at Sbarros then went to see Aladdin (the Disney version)
