And sometimes it all comes together.

After having seen The Following's "Raven" promo [link] which I thought was the greatest and most literate promo, like ever (the original, which was in HD and since taken down *major suckage* but not before I had a chance to study it at least ) I decided to try and recreate the neo noir contrasty shot of Joe Carroll/James Purefoy at the end.

Using 's Clown Clan [link] for The Joker I set to work and went for a wide-angle closeup with a shallow dof and the light sources were 3 florescent lamps with an IBL night for some ambience. Uncharacteristically (for me) I used color temp for the lights setting them at 3500K for a greeinsh tint. Set the focus on The Joker's eyes and exported to LuxRender from Reality 2.5.

I knew I had something special.

After lots of tweaking I was happy and started post in PS. Aside from playing around with the contrast I knew Red Paw Media's Bleach Bypass filter [link] (usable only in 32bit) would give me the look I wanted. After more tweaking and cleaning up bad pixels, there it was!

Workflow: Modeled in D|S using Jaderail's Golden Rules to compose, exported via Reality 2.5 to LuxRender 1.2, post-work in PS: Sharpen More filter, touch up for bad pixels etc.
