Hey, a cover contest might be an idea for another contest down the line...!

Paper backdrop:
I'm mighty glad you asked, because I forgot to link to it!
uploaded a page of the very lovely type of paper she likes to use.
I downloaded it ages ago and sometimes I slap it behind plain images so they're not sitting on boring white.
I have some other parchment backdrops I collected, but hers has lovely texture, and a nice, warm looking color that compliments pretty much anything--no tweaking necessary!
I highly recommend adding it to any parchment collection, it's a fine paper.

Ha! It's funny, but when I selected that sketch I had the Iron Giant on my mind! (Probably why I chose it.)
I originally tried with some brighter colors for the robot but I kept changing my mind in favor of something more old-time-y.

 I think your color palette is also very fitting for Gidget's world, since it's going with the whole "steam punk" motif with its messy, noisy, yet somehow elegant technology.

Aw, I'm glad you like it!
Your lines were really fun to work from, your sketches are nice and clean, and your art style is what I'd term "classically cartoony". (Like something you'd either see in the Sunday comics, or as an animated show.) I was really surprised how, even though we were both working from your lines--and your Gidgets are VERY consistent--TheJenjineer and I ended up with rather different results; I can clearly see HER art style in her inks (and colors, of course ). I generally knew that an inker or colorist can make all the difference in comics, but it had never really sunk in too deeply with me until this contest. It's very fascinating!

That's been one of the most fun and interesting things about this contest; seeing how much individual style and creativity people have been able to inject into my sketches. You, Jenan, and everyone else have managed to go their own way and do completely their own thing with them, despite them all coming from the same source. There's far more flexibility and room for interpretation than I thought there'd be, and it's astounding to see. It's been a bit of an eye-opening experience, honestly, and I'm definitely going to do this again at some point.

Thank you for the comment about my work feeling "classically cartoony" too; I take that as a huge compliment. You pretty much went on to describe just exactly what my art is inspired by and what I aim to live up to.

Aye, it's been great to see all the different entries--and you've gotten quite a few!
I'm glad this contest had a good turn out, I like seeing the Gidgets, the Calamaity crew, and the Sonic stuff.

I'd say you're living up to your artistic inspiration VERY well.
