Description
My Christmas picture to my sister--the character Halt, from the Ranger Apprentice books by John Flanagan.I forgot he had a longbow and black arrows. Crap. Ah well, perhaps he had to borrow someone else's archery equipment. (Cut me some slack, I only read the books once and it was earlier this year.) *my head's had time to let these things slip out*

TOTALLY.
And thank you!
(I don't know if it was intentional, or an accident, but my sister created a ranger in the game "Temple of elemental Evil" and I SWEAR she's actually playing Halt. She even picked a gruff voice and stays mostly silent throughout our playing sessions.) XDD

Thank you!
I just finished reading the 4th--The Battle for Skandia! Now I'm about to start the 5th today. I'm reading them slower since I'm also reading them out loud to three of my siblings, certainly makes my throat a bit raw--I find it hard to bring myself to put them down.

To three of your siblings wow! Are you the biggest fan in the house, so they learn from you about Will? Which book up to four is your fave?

It's hard to say which one of us is the bigger fan--my younger brother, ~SteelFanged , read them first, then he recommended them to me and now I've been reading them out loud to him and my two sisters, and it looks like we all enjoy them pretty equally.
(I just finished reading the 5th to them and I gotta say, I was fairly pleased.)
Not sure if I can choose a favorite--so far John Flanagan's writing has been going very strong throughout the series. He seems to be moving at a good pace, and I like how the story has progressed and the characters have matured. Probably one of my favorite parts from the series was the fact that Will and Horace became friends. At first I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, since there was some animosity between the two, but I was VERY happy when things took a turn for the better for them. (They make a pretty good team.) ^,^
Now I've read the first 2 chapters of the 6th book, but I have to take a break, since I'm recovering from a cold. *the one problem with reading out loud* >,<

I'm sorry about the cold. Although you've probably gotten over it by now
I agree with your assessment on the books so far. Just to warn you, his writing style gets a little sloppier as the series goes on. But you won't have to worry about that for a while yet. But hey, it doesn't me from reading it.
I too love how Horace and Will are friends, but I'd have to say my favorite was the ending of book 2. Put me in shock!

Yep, I'm better now--and just finished the 6th!
At first I was a bit nervous since there was a lack of Halt. (Gotta love his interactions with other characters. XDD) But overall I found it to be surprisingly good.
Ah, that's the way of it with some writers...I think I'll still be willing to give them a try though--after all, there's nothing to be lost from reading! (If worse comes to worse, you just go back to your favorite books and forget about the ones you don't like.) ^_~
That WAS a good ending...

Wasn't the ending adorable!!! I was incredibly annoyed that Hlat didn't come more into play, I would have loved it if he had shown up in Norgate, actually I have a fanfic about that- sort of, its really more of just book six.
But anyway besides my random sidetrack. I'm glad your feeling better! And good point about the authors, I just love Will so much though.
Also Book 7 is out.

Aye, me an' my sisters were disappointed with the lack of Halt as well.
Will's a great character. X3
Oohh, is it now?
I must keep my eyes open for it!

Great drawing, I love the shading style you used!
I agree with *hostage-fiver that the coloring is great, but I think for this drawing it's a good thing that the character merges into his background like that. It seems to me that good camouflage is what he's going for.

I have to agree with Kimhura, this colouring is tasty! You should try and develop this style a bit, methinks
The only thing I can really say is the background could be distinguished from the character a little better though, maybe by desaturating it a little or blurring the lines a tad.
Other than that, a brilliant piece :3

Thanks!
I think I may at that...it was a complete accident that I tried it, but it worked out surprisingly well.
Aye, that's something I need to work on--distinguishing backgrounds from characters to make things "fit in" a bit better. (I have some problems like that in AROTD.)

Accidents are the coolest things! A lot of accidents have rapidly improved my art coursework for college, not least of which is the one that I am actually using for my project... I accidentally made some really cool tissues, and decided on a whim to paint over them, and now I am quilting together giant bits of cloth to make a massive ink stain that will TAKE OVER THE WORLD-
...getting a bit distracted
But a lot of great things were discovered by accident. I can't wait to see where you take this, you've improved so much!

Oh gosh, I love the coloring.
This is amazing. I think you should do the shading like this more often.

Thank you!
It was a method of shading I completely discovered by accident--but I ran with it and I may very well end up using it quite a bit. All I do is save a black and white version over the colored one, burn and dodge things a bit more, then set the "threshold" so it makes everything stark black and white. (Then I usually change the black and white to different colors, depending on the lighting I want to go for.) And I set that layer to "multiply" and lower the whole layer opacity, so it makes for instant "hard" shading. ^,^
