Description

This will be the last DAZ tutorial I share for a little while.Β  However, if you have other tutorials you'd like to see or ideas you'd like to see demonstrated, feel free to send me a note and I will queue it for the future.

This tutorial, or perhaps more like an introduction, shows the difference subdividing makes in DAZ/iray renders.Β  SubD is a convenient way to enhance the polygon count of your 3d models (and props or clothing) without the need for external editing.

I hope you find this informative and feel free to add more helpful comments below.

I think we all have encountered this especially with "older" props but I gather that the issue is still pertinent to newer products so thanks for the reminder.

One thing to keep in mind is that everytime you sub divide an area of any product to 2 you double the polygon count. Polygon count as a whole is not as relevant today if subD is used sparingly given the power of newer boxes, but you can still bring them to a screeching halt depending on the renderer (3Delight, Iray (good nvidia graphics card helps quite a bit), Reality/Luxrender) you use. For example try rendering a scene with all elements at subd3 or 4 with say 3 or 4 chars (all body parts visible),some props, & clothing.

Yes, we should definitely be modest with these settings and only apply where necessary β€” not as a default.
