How about a rehearsed rant about this subjetc that is always in my files. I made i after I saw the Victini movie. Just a second #copy and paste# there:

What the hell is wrong with the pokemon writers?!
Well yeah sure Ash is not always the smartest BUT everyone with the brainpower of a dead bug can realize that Ash is the best friend you can possibly find. Who agrees?
So why didn't ash-ash of all people- offer Victini the awesome oppurtunity to join him on his journey to see the world he/she/it was locked away from for a THOUSAND FUCKING YEARS?!! I mean that would totally be ash being himself and Victini would most certainly say "yes". Come to think of it I could say the same about Zekrom and Reshiram.
BUT NO! Heaven forbid that Ash and the legends enjoy the company of their best friends.
Let's start a list: Mewtwo, Lugia(choosen one), Ho-Oh (the STALKER since episode 1!), Celeby, LATIAS the potential girlfriend and Bayleef rival, Giratina, dear readers please continue the list.
In summation: Give Ash and his
pokemon friends the family they deserve!!!
Well thats enough for now but I hope I was able to make my point clear.

Then again, REAL trainers use normal Pokemon rather than cheap legendaries. That's why Ash lost in the Sinnoh league. Because of that scumbag with legendaries.
But still, having at least one of the little legendaries would make things much more lovely for Ash and could get help from them. ^^
