Very definitely pimped, primarily for colours and detail but most of it wwas already there it was just enhanced and helped along.

Thankyou

Sorry for the slow response,I was saving this message so that I could answer properly and then it got lost in my message centre

For the edit there is a free program called photoscape that is very, very useful for smoke shots...

[link]

.....it has a lot of fairly cool features but isn't as good as photoshop, but it does have a feature called 'backlight' that can really pull out the details and colours in the smoke.I highly recommend trying it if your shooting smoke work.
There is also a feature called bloom that adds light and can smooth out some the flaws in smoke, which can be very useful aswell.

For the shooting the most important thing is a solid, dark background that smoke can be seen against and isn't distracting. Also it's important to make sure your light source catches the smoke well whalst avoiding illuminating the background too much.Photoshop can help smooth out or clone any imperfections in the background but it's best to get it as right as possible before the edit.

Hope that helps a little mate,if there's anything more specific I can help with please feel free to ask

Jordan2002 [2009-06-20 21:37:20 +0000 UTC]

have they been edited in photoshop to make the colour or is it that the were just blown out or something? just cause i might give it a go =]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

4420 In reply to Jordan2002 [2009-06-22 18:35:42 +0000 UTC]

The shot was taken as the match was blown out and the colour is mostly natural and then enhanced in photoshop.
The red hue is from the lamp I was using for lighting and blue-y hue at the far end of the whisp is from natural light coming from a window.

I'm not the best at giving advice but if there's anything I can help with feel free to ask and I'll try my best

Shutter Speed: 1/128 second
F Number: F/4.0
Focal Length: 6 mm
ISO Speed: 200

I didn't realize you could capture flame like that and still get a crisp and colorful shot, great details!

It takes a bit of fiddling with the set up to get it right but it's well worth experimenting with and the beauty of smoke is that you are always guaranteed a unique pattern.

Check out gallery,he has some really cool smoke work.
