ok well HELL i finally finished it, but the scan kinda screwed it up ever so slightly in the color... the bottom is not actually blue but all black, and yeah... hope you enjoy! ^_^

Yes,I was kind of thinking along those lines....either that or Howard Carter or someone like that lighting a flame deep inside an Egyptian tomb for the first time.

how do you get the smoke and flame to streak without the hand streaking as well? I'm a novice photographer, and there's probably a simple answer, i just dont know it lol... please enlighten me

The streaking on the left hand side is due to that part of the smoke moving faster than anything else in the image.
Ideally I'd have prefered it if the whole image had been pin sharp but I did'nt have a bright enough light source to increase my shutter speed much further.
I'd say about a hundreth of a second for your shutter should me more than enough to keep the hand from streaking but the smoke moves a lot faster so you have to experiment a bit and find what work's best with your setup.A lot depend's on the light source.

It depend's really on what camera you're using,if your using a compact then there's not much you can do to stop any streaking etc other than using the flash and hoping the camera compensates for it.If you've got a SLR or camera with full manual control then you're exposure time can make a big difference in the end result.....trial and error is the best aproach to find what lighting and setting's work best
As a general rule of thumb I alway think the shutter needs to be 'at least' 100th of a second or faster and the aperture at around 4 or 5 and higher if you can,but the light does'nt always allow it without proper lighting etc.

There's something incredibly elegant and almost magical about the smoke and the flame when it is broken down into a single moment and image, it's a brilliant idea

i love the light that's reflected on the hand

That hand was a real pain,it felt like it stuck out too much and detracted from the smoke too much.....it's not too bad now after a bit of tinkering but I'm half tempted to try and edit it out.
