Description
Thanks for viewing this collection of iPod skins, 'inspired' by the Apple iPod range, and designed into WMP10 skins by me, 6Tran (or Vi Tran - get it?).For those wondering, the name (v)iPod comes from my name, Vi (pronounced like the letter), although calling it a Vi-Pod sounds stupid - you could always call it MiPod (my-pod) since the (v) resembles an M, which sounds less, although still, stupid. Or call it 'an iPod skin'. I dunno, whatever, up to you. When it comes down to it, i don't think its name matters - i personally think this is a kickass iPod skin
Not meaning to force unnecessary competition in fellow deviant Juanchis' (Juan Hernandez's) face though, i present my rather old and dated collection of (v)iPod skins (my first skins i've ever made). I started and pretty much completed thses skins back in midyear '05, but never released them to the public until now.
It wasn't until a good 6 or 7 months after i finshed that i realised i could become a member of deviantART since i was no longer blacklisted because of some other bastard abusing his membership using my ISP. Now that i am a member, here you are fellas.
And it wasnt until i'd decided to post these skins that i realised that deviant Juanchis had already made his own very impressive collection of skins very similar to mine, and done so very competently. But nonetheless, i think you'll be pleasantly surprised by these variations of an old, old theme.
Although aesthetically no different to Juanchis' extremely vast and near complete collection of iPod skins, i believe that this very small collection of iPod skins are an evolution from his collection with regard to a much wider and better range of features. As a brief summary, these include:
- use of the central circle button to switch screen-modes (eg. from Now Playing to Playlist to Visualisation), as the iPod does.
- implementation of the iPod's touch-wheel ability: these skins use this to change the volume.
- consistence and continuity between different screen-modes, as well as Apple propaganda in an attempt to not breach copyright law
- a modified Visualisation display inspired by the iTunes one
- shuffle and repeat function buttons as the iPod displays them
- a clean, white (or coloured) look
- video support on a dedicated screen replacing the visualisation screen
- acces to the WMP quick-start menu feature via the menu button
- an OFF screen display
- a minimise button (excluding the (v)iPod Video and (v)iPod mini skins) - try to find it!
- a colour change function (as for now, only available for the (v)iPod Mini - to be implemented for the (v)iPod Video, and later, Nano) - try to find the button! (hint: double-click)
- Playlist screen adjusts the width of its columns depending on the number of items in it, to accomodate the scrollbar's appearance
- Scrolling text (title, author, album) only in the event if the text is too long to fit on-screen

SPECIAL THANKS
These skins were created by me using the freely distributed wallpapers on the Apple Inc. websites, which i resized (in hindsight, not very well since these are rather large, albeit consequently easy to use skins) and slightly modified to their current look. So, credit goes to Apple for the iPod concept and the look of this skin, which leaves credit for the code and the skins' features to me, although many of these features were ripped off and modified from other skins that i studied, including:
- FiercePod by FierceDeity2 (Deviant)
- Morpheleon by Prashant Kukade (Deviant)
- Tronnix by Mike Bryant (Deviant)
- pretty much ALL of the Original Windows Media Player Skins package
- the sample skins of the WMP SDK 10 (MAJOR help)
There are others, but if they weren't mentioned, they played a small role.

THINGS STILL TO BE IMPROVED UPON
However i am yet to improve on a few features, including:
- the lack of album-art display ONLY when there is album-art.
- inoperability on some of my friends' computers though it works perfectly fine on mine. By presenting this skin to a far wider audience, i think i can perhaps get a better idea of what's wrong with it.
- the crappiness of the Shuffle. I spent VERY little time on it, and decided it wasn't worth making - i may finish it eventually and add menu buttons, and the green LED light.
- the inability to make the song-length text below the seekbar display time-remaining instead, just as the iPod does.
I am also interested in making it such that, in the video-screen, the seekbar appears on top of the video rather than situated below it in a seperate section (try it out and you'll understand what i mean). I have managed to do so rather well, but i am unable to get it to work properly when displaying video that is not of *.wmv format. Any skinheads out there interested in helping out with this technicality in the code?

NOTE: If this skins set does not work for you, i would appreciate a reply including what version of WMP you are using, what Windows, and with which skin(s). Or better yet, someone who can tell me what's wrong with them. Critiques and comments are welcomed too.
And FINALLY, please enjoy these (v)iPod skins!

You need to double-click on the titlebar text (where it says (v)iPod mini), not on the track text.
Hope this helps.

ill see if i can post the mini as seperate skins in different colours, but im kinda busy and distracted, so it may take a while (i originally posted this roughly a half year ago - maybe its procrastination). although really it'd only take a couple of minutes, it would help if i hadnt misplaced all those files....
til then, the only advice i can give is to click it like crazy til it works!*

I love these skins, but i'm very sad that i haven't figured out yet how to change the color of the (v)iPod Mini. i saw that i need to double click somewhere? could you give me a clue as to where, or even how (in case i'm just doing it wrong) thank you!

thanks joanna! I'm glad you like them!
to change the colour of the mini, double-click the (v)iPod text. simple as that. it SHOULD work
the reason that the 'should' is there is because ive been told by some people who trialled these skins that it doesnt work. if it still doesnt, let me know and ill maybe just make four different iPod mini skins rather than just the one.
i should probably also mention that the colour change function is also available for the Video, i forgot that while i wrote my big spiel

Hiya 6tran,
Only just found this. Nice implementation
Regarding the iPod's time messages, if you look in my iPod dA and iPod Clear skins, you'll see a couple of routines that I wrote, TimeFromStart and TimeTo Finish, that do the calculation and format it tidily (works for hours too, for videos). There's a timer call in the WMS file in the main view to refresh them once a second and they are placed using the TEXT's time1 and time2, and there are calls in the UpdateMetadata routine to initialise them.
Feel free to grab them. Your skin (and one of the commentators on iPod dA) have reminded me that I really should get the clickwheel working - I just realised it's still in my code (when I was looking for the above bits), but commented out.
I had the same problem as you trying to get text on top of the video, in the end I just put it on top of the visualisation ...
Incidentally, do you use a very high res screen? Yours look big on my 1280x1024 screen, but I know mine can look small on a 1600x1024 laptop screen.

Yo Rallyz,
Thanks a heap for the comments and ESPECIALLY for the help and collab. I've downloaded your skins (very impressive coding work might i add - extremely thorough and detailed), and im extremely grateful for the help with the TimeToFinish coding. I've had a brief play around with that one alone, and i now understand why you used both TimeToFinish and TimeFromStart - sync issues right? i havent added it quite yet, just mucking around figuring out how to do so, but I'l be sure to rerelease after ive added this feature, and the albumart coding which i've yet to start. that and all those other things i mentioned in my comments above
and yeah about my resolution, actually it is rather big on my computer too, but that was just me being too lazty to resize after id finished 50% of it. although, given the size of the buttons, and of the screen displaying video, i reckon its just about right for functionality. i use a 1280x800, and it seems a perfect size for me.

Hiya 6tran,
S'funny, I hadn't even thought about putting both bits of timer code in the same routine! I was thinking of them as two independent figures and it seemed clearer. Also, I was half contemplating letting the user pick from Apple's way or Microsoft's way. As a result I never noticed the sync problem, although thinking about it it's probably best to keep such routines as short as possible.
Thanks for the comments
