Description Hey there!

Here's a personal painting I did after work. Something to practice more of a traditional look.

Nice approach but it simply is to chaotic and not detailed enough., The first look is overwhelming but on a second look it simply is not detailed enough.
Anyways, This is a 7/10 and could be a 9 with more detail

seanmeister In reply to Zurku [2017-11-24 15:56:19 +0000 UTC]

The composition is aided by the chaos - that's the point. It depicts a kangaroo court, and the focus of the image is on the centre, which is where the blur of the forms of many chaotically assembled members of the court surround and draw the eye to. The periphery of the piece is *intentionally* not detailed, so I disagree with your critique because it ignores the purpose of the chaos and lack of detail in clearly deliberate points in the artwork. The blurred and blended strokes do what they were intended to do, which is to give a feeling of chaos and to have you focus on the standing figure who looks to be objecting to the figure in the stockade, and the solitary flag, as well as the serene stained glass window above the mess of the crowd. The revolution was gritty and dirty, and this artwork reflects this.

I understand the desire to avoid giving in to saying "wow this looks great" and whatnot as a review, because it panders needlessly, but if you are going to give harsh criticism, at least try to ensure you have assessed the reasoning behind what you are picking at. The very 'flaw' you chose is the same as the reason for why I give this piece a 9/10. It is excellent, and immediately invokes the intended feeling of renaissance depictions of revolution. The broad, blended strokes of the crowd tell you that there are a huge number of people assembled below this kangaroo court and stockade. It is a grim, chaotic scene, with a quiet serenity hanging above it, showing the dichotomy of the grit and muck of human politics and the fight for freedom, and the promise of that freedom offered by faith in God and in the pioneers of the revolution.

I give your review a 3/10 for lack of insight.

calm yo tits down, that s just his opinion, not a freaking review.

I am calm - or was when I replied. Refer to the person I replied to's other responses elsewhere on the site. They like to give harsh criticism for harshness's sake and seem to take their opinions seriously, so as a member of this community I took it upon myself to critique the reasoning behind the needless harshness. An opinion is just as viable to question as a review.

I'm curious as to what part of my reply indicated I was anything but calm, and analytical, however.

hum, the part where you mistook a a simple opinion for some kind of detailed review ? ._.

Zurku In reply to seanmeister [2017-11-24 18:33:04 +0000 UTC]

many thanks for your extensive point of view. My intention was in no way to give an extensive review.Β  Your point, which is to counter what I pickd out as flaw is however more perception then fact. Chaos should/could be the intended feeling, however there's not telling whether more detail would've actually increased the quality of the endproduct.Β

I enjoyd reading through your answere, it still doens't change my point of view though.Β

edit: I didnt take a "dump" on the picture by the way. I simply said I didn't like it because it lackd detail, no need to trip people
