My first real successful attempt at drawing a manga page. I had fun with it so I consider it a success. The scene was taken from 's fanfiction "Touched." It's a really great story, and one scene in particular inspired me to make this. Now, unless you've read her story, then chances are you won't have any idea of what's going on here. (So I'll just leave it at that.)I know the panels are kind of cramped, and my brother actually made the comment that it looks like the girl's head is exploding at the bottom of the page.
Anyway, I wanted to challenge myself with perspective shots and illustrating a "scene" from from someone else's written work. I hope to draw a couple more pages if I can get the layout right. Other than that, I don't have much else to say.Hope you like it.
Time Taken: about 7 hours (of planning, sketching, finalizing, and inking)

Holy crap.
Holy CRAP.
I was NOT expecting this, and to say that I like it is a HUGE UNDERSTATEMENT. I mean, look at all the all-caps I'm using--I MUST like it, right???
Wrong: I -LOVE- this. Her expressions are perfect and her hands look inCREDible, the way the world seems to get ripped to shreds around her is--wait a minute, have you been picking my brain?! AAAAGGGGHHH-- (*jams on a tinfoil hat, then takes it off again because this is too good to block*)
You, you amazing person, just made my ever-lovin' day. Can I repay you??? Like, with a one-shot or something??? I was NOT expecting art for "Touched" so freaking early!!!

AAAHHH!! Thank you SO much!!! I didn't know what to expect when I started this, but all I knew was that the scene with Hina's "power" just spoke so vividly to me that I wanted to try my best to draw it out. I don't know why that happened, but I'm really glad it did because I feel more confident with my future attempts at drawing a manga sometime. It took me a while to get the layout right, but in the end I really did learn a lot from it. Also, I didn't know if you intended for Hiei's cloak to literally expand like that, but that's pretty much how I imagined it when I read the chapter.
And THANK YOU for the wonderful offer, but really the art was no trouble. I love getting sudden bursts of inspiration that I'm able to materialize in a drawing. That doesn't happen too often so I'm really excited about this manga page. ^^ A one-shot does sound awesome, but I don't want to add to the load you already have with your stories. I just look forward to your ever-exciting updates.

Funnily enough, I did indeed intend for Hiei’s cloak to expand (at least, I intended it to expand in Hina’s eyes; it would seem to cover her field of vision and whatnot). That’s why I brought out my tinfoil hat, you see, because the resemblance was particularly uncanny.
I’m psyched to hear that my words spoke (ha?) to you—as an author I can receive no higher praise. I’m also happy to hear that you feel more confident now, though your art as far as I can tell has always been amazing and you have no reason for doubts!
And a one-shot or specific story chapter or something like that would actually be a ton of fun—prompts help me focus my creativity, because (using Future Talk as an example) if I’m left to wander I will take you on a looooong, drawn out trip of DOOM. So, if something you’d like to see comes to mind, do NOT hesitate to tell me. ^^ Think of it as a Chrismahannakwanzadon present??? XD

That's cool, and the tinfoil hat comment made me laugh. xD Manga-wise, the biggest problem I have seems to be that when I read a fanfic it plays out in my head as if I were watching an anime. (So trying to capture those images in still panels is a challenge.) Ever since I was a kid, any book I read was instantly given a voice and I could visualize it as I read. That's also why I LOVE details so much. I love seeing the story open up in it's own little world in my head. I do the same thing when I write. Most times, I play it out in my head before I write it. But once it starts going, sometimes the story plays out in my head as I'm writing, so it kind of writes itself occasionally.
Thanks again for the one-shot/story chapter offer. If something comes to mind, I'll be sure to let you know. And if you like the idea, then by all means feel free to write it.
