Maybe the digital pen could work for ebook tablets.
You could write the notes instead of typing them.
The pen could have a switch (like the one on the image) to make the screen active or inactive to avoid pressing buttons accidentally.

As for me - i would rather have another controler in my second hand with several programmable buttons to remove need in keyboard.
Yet still... Can't think about anything what can substitute keyboard
There are so many tasks you are doing with your keyboard, especially when you want to do something really fast.

True, except when people don't know how to type and writing is faster. Although most people today know typing when they buy a computer.
