I took that one on my phone at a movie theatre...just before watching There Will Be Blood.

When the building is complete, it will be the most energy efficient building in the world (I dunno if I told you that already, but that seems really neat!)

That is really neat, actually.

How did the movie turn out?

Personally, I really enjoyed the film. It doesn't leave me jealous of any of the characters, though.

Did you see the movie?

Not yet. I don't get to see many movies in the theater really.

I tend to go to this smaller theatre downtown...it plays a lot of good movies and is way cheaper than Silver City theatres.

I didn't think Vancouver was known for their cold winters....unless you've lived in other parts of the country? Vancouver looks much more tolerable than Winterpeg.

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-03-02 23:24:13 +0000 UTC]

Vancouver's okay, the lowest it's been this winter was -4C or so, back in December. My dislike of winters is a lifelong thing, though. Where I used to live wasn't much 'warmer' than Winterpeg.

You and your -4....it's -33 with wind chill right now in Winterpeg. It's been around this temperature for over a month now...except when it was almost -50. I LOATHE WINTER.

Oi, that sounds brutal. One thing I don't miss (and never will) is cold. If I never saw snow for the rest of my life, I'd declare myself in paradise. However, it snowed here quite a bit this winter... but at least I don't have to 'look forward' to snow in April anymore.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-03-05 23:39:24 +0000 UTC]

That's definitely a reason why I want to move....I'm sick of this temperature. Today it was -39 when I woke up. Made me want to go to work even less. There hasn't been a lot of snow this winter in Winnipeg. But of course, there is always the chance that a blizzard will come this month and dump a meter of snow on us.

And it just keeps getting worse.....today I woke up only to find out that it's -45 with wind chill. I want to go to B.C. NOW.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-03-07 02:38:22 +0000 UTC]

In Vancouver? No. I'm having an exhibition opening in Winnipeg the day before I leave for Vancouver.....I'll be part of other exhibitions at the end of April/beginning of May as well. Nothing planned for the summer, except going to check out art in Chicago...then going to Art School in September.

Work as in art related things? Or do you have a bland day-job? Or maybe a great day-job?!?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-03-13 18:24:03 +0000 UTC]

It's a so-so day job, depending on what each day pretty much brings. But no, it's not art-related, I am actually self-employed in a completely different field.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-03-13 18:36:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm so glad that my current workplace is art-related. It's a nice improvement from Tim Hortons.

And low wages...and bad management (at the location I worked at, anyways). I remember having Timbits fights with other coworkers. We would throw them at each other when the store wasnt busy...good times.

Yeah, doesn't sound quite like a dream job... but if fun is to be had, that's fine.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-03-16 15:48:06 +0000 UTC]

I don't think it matters much where you work, it's about whether you're having fun there. So far, I haven't had a job that's fun. I'm hoping my current job will be. Arts and crafts, oh my!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-03-17 18:32:15 +0000 UTC]

My job's been fun ever since I became self-employed. I don't care much about office jobs though... nothing fun there. Arts and crafts can definitely be fun though.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-03-18 15:28:27 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't mind being self-employed. The reason why I leave jobs is due to coworkers being a pain. I definitely like my new job so far...it's a lot less stressful than working at Value Village.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-03-18 18:47:13 +0000 UTC]

I bet it is. About being self-employed... I most like the fact that I'm making my own schedule. And I'm sorry to hear you've had less than pleasant experiences with your coworkers... that's always a pain.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-03-21 22:55:35 +0000 UTC]

Working part time is also good. I get that element of surprise as to when Im working. Doing the Monday to Friday 9 - 5:30 thing was boring as hell.

Bad experiences with coworkers seems inevitable....

So far, I havent had too many issues with my new coworkers. I just get a little annoyed at how slow some of the associates are. I'm the new one; I should be slow!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-04-07 21:45:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, it depends. I get a good feeling from knowing I'm faster and better than other people, despite being new. However, it can and does get frustrating after a while.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-04-10 14:03:29 +0000 UTC]

Good point! Another problem at Michael's is that it is terribly under-staffed at the moment. It makes the job more difficult for everyone.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-04-11 16:05:55 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I think it's the same here... or it was on the rare occasions I ended up at Michael's. The closest one is in Richmond, and I really don't have much to do in Richmond so often, so I usually go to another art store that's a couple of blocks away from where I live.
But yes, there weren't many staff around when I was in the Richmond one either... and I can see how difficult that would be, especially since it's a fairly large store.

A-r-i-t-a In reply to rk2901 [2008-04-15 16:51:35 +0000 UTC]

I don't know why it would be so difficult to hire people...I get paid above minimum wage and the work is generally easy. I guess it's not for everyone.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rk2901 In reply to A-r-i-t-a [2008-04-22 17:42:09 +0000 UTC]

I guess so too. Maybe there's something about their hiring policy rather than people being unwilling to work there?
