How I see it, it wouldn't be a good gameplay element, at least not for open areas.

In Black Mesa, there are underwater Barnacles in Xen that drag anyone unfortunate enough to be caught by their tentacles underwater to be eaten. I think they might have been based off the concept of Sand Barnacles but I'm not entirely sure.

It is clear that the field of suppression is that there are no children in the game and if there are, they are in a part where Gordon never visits and they work to create the cremator, just do not know that there are no animals of any kind in the game , only pigeons, crows and seagulls are seen, but any other terrestrial fauna is as if the combine or the wild fauna of xen have extinguished all of them completely from the face of the earth.

And yes, that's an accurate artwork of the cut sand barnacle and it's twice more deadly than the Xen tree, I guess.

Holy shit the stabby-stab-worms! I seriously wish this part of the Xen flors / fauna would have taken root on Earth, transforming the planet even more similarly to Xen. However due to Xen's lower gravity, the worms might not reach as tall on Earth.
