Ok, since people seem to like the way I use colour pencils so much here goes a little tutorial!Just as I promised!
PLEASE READ:
- IF YOU EVER RESORT TO THIS TUTORIAL OR USE TIPS FROM IT LET ME KNOW! ^^ I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE RESULTS!
- Sorry for the poor quality of the photos...
- This is just a SUGGESTION! I don't really know how to use pencils properly: this is just merely stuff I've learned from my own personal experience using this medium and I'm completely self-taught!

This looks awesome, I'm going to try it out now. Hopefully I won't completely butcher it because colour is not my forte. That being markers, coloured pencil or paint. Give me ink or graphite and I'm much better, so this year I have been forcing myself to use colour. Practise makes perfect after all
I'll try my best
I'll link you when I'm done, and I'll put your name in the description so other people can find this tutorial too

I used just one pencil orange for the skin. i can shade with it too.. Is that bad?

I think the result would be too bland and one-sided. Real skin is made out of many different shades and often varies from very light peachy (hightlights) to very dark brown (shadows). ^^

24 is a pretty good number to start at you don't need that much more to get an effect like the one i described in the tut!

Okay...so, whenever I use pencils it never seems vivid enough, and I have these commissions where the commissioners want it really vivid. How do you make it vivid?

A-Xofia In reply to LittleWhiteFawn [2012-03-26 19:18:31 +0000 UTC]
umm i guess it's all about the pressure control and the use of many layers. many people colour really lightly or don't layer enough to get a nice 3d vivid effect. hope it helps!

umm by good quality paper like i say in the tut, i mean the type of paper that isn't glossy (like most printer paper). but i don't like the type that has to much texture either because that can get in the way of getting a nice smooth effect in the coloring.hope it helps!

Go to an art store to the drawing and painting section. XL paper by Canson is good, they're spiral-bound notebooks full of paper. It's pretty cheap and there's a lot of it, and it's pretty good paper for drawing.
Canson is generally a good brand for this sorta thing.
